Psychotherapy?

We took ds (6) to a child psychiatrist today who diagnosed him with ADHD and recommended psychotherapy.

From what I've been reading I'm not sure how ds would benefit from it and there seems to be some question about how...child friendly it is.

There are a lot of different kinds of psycholtherapy and I would want more information.

My DD isn't ADHD but has high functioning autism with TONS of anxiety. Cognitive behavoiral therapy (CBT) was very helpful for her and I could see how it could help a child with ADHD, too. In CBT, one learns to chose how to think about things and thereby control one's reactions.

The process helped me with parenting because her therapist helped me sort out parenting issues and reasonable expectations for her.

But just sitting around talking about how he feels? That sounds pointless.

Yes, CBT is the way to go...I'm in the process of trying to find someone to work with my 4yo DS1.

I found the therapist recommended on my insurance and CBT is listed as one of the therapies offered, so I guess we'll try her out.
