What's wrong with my tomatoes?

They are ripening beautifully, and then they are developing a black rotted spot at the end. Any ideas?

It's called blossom end rot & is a result of depleted calcium levels in your soil. Are you in raised beds or have you had lots of rain lately? Try egg shells, epsom salt, or calcium ammendment to fix it.

Also, if you haven't had a lot of rain recently, it can be from unpredictable watering patterns. We had a couple issues with blossom end rot this year because DH decided to go gung-ho on watering for a few days. When there is too much water, the plant doesn't end up getting the calcium it needs.

Gardens can be so finicky!

FWIW, you can cut that part off and the rest will still be good.
