Are gender tests cheating??

We said we didn't want to find out the sex this time. Okay, mostly me but DH is fine with it. We already have 2 girls, plus when we DTD it was early, probably before ovulation (kinda thought we were still safe) and I'm pretty sure that is more likely to result in a girl. Although it would be new and interesting to have a son but we are both completely great with another girl, so it just didn't seem to matter and since it will for sure be the last we wanted the surprise BUT...

It's kinda fun to do these tests...is it cheating if technically you don't want to know?

Chinese Gender? When I search chinese gender predictor most charts that come up say boy, girl, boy based on age and month of conception. I have girl, girl... but I did find a chart that was accurate for the 1st 2 and predicts a girl for this one, too.

Chinese Birth Chart

Intelligender?: This apparently tells you anytime after 10 weeks based on hormone levels in your urine. Anyone done this? Know anyone who has?? I'm trying to decide if this would be cheating.

Anyother tests or old wives tales you can think of? Anyone else planning to be surprised?

I want to know NOW! I could never wait.

The Chinese methods says Girl for me.

Intelligender seems gimicky to me.

We're going to find out. We don't have much in the way of baby clothes since we thought we were done so we need stuff and I'm not a big fan of yellow.

But I wouldn't put too much stock into the chinese gender tests of the other test you mentioned. Just not reliable. The chinese chart is right for two out of my three. We'll see on the fourth!

I've always heard that the heart rate can tell you what you are having. If the heart rate is lower than 140 it's a boy. 150 and higher is a girl. This was correct for my dd. Her heart rate was always like 163. Anyone else have experience with this old wives tale?

My son's HB was always over 160... chinese chart was accurate with him. i'm hoping it's accurate this time too (girl!!!)

DDCC - everything pointed to boy for this little girl. EVERYTHING.

So no, its not cheating, since they are still just as likely to be right as flipping a coin.

FWIW I have seen on here that intelligender is probably LESS correct than flipping a coin. Dont waste your money.

We're going to be surprised! We have a girl (2.5) and a boy (15 months) so we have one of each and still have almost everything! So I'm really excited to be surprised! And I can't wait to announce to everyone after the birth the name (which will also be a secret) and the gender all at once! We'll take a pic and send it to everyone saying "Introducing ______" it'll be hard to hold out but I think it'll be soooooo worth it!! Good luck!! I hope you can make it too! We'll have to be each other's accountability partners! Lol.

that chinese gender thing has been wrong for every single person I know, me, mom, sil's, friends..

and I wouldnt put any stock into the tests...just sayin

Not cheating since you never really know if what they are saying is accurate.

We're not finding out...didn't with the first two and the not-knowing suits our family. Doesn't work for everyone, but we really do love the surprise. And since it's not like we're suffering from an abundance of space to plan a nursery (we all sleep in the same room right now, or me and the kids in one room and dh in the other when he needs extra sleep)...it's not like there's a rush to figure out what color to paint the room. I have plenty of gender neutral clothes from the other two, or enough anyway.

The Chinese gender chart has been right for me with the first two (both girls) and it says girl again. Which is what DH and I both figure at this point since I think we conceived earlier in my cycle (haha - when we thought it was "Safe").

As for those intelligender things...I know two women who have used them. For one it was wrong, the other it was right. Cheating? That seems like a silly word, especially if you're already planning on finding out...but, not very accurate, for sure. I see them on the same level as checking the chinese calendar...I just don't want to waste the money on one. ;-)

After looking at the chinese calendar again it appears that it said girl for the 1st 2 and BOY for this one. That would be CRAZY! I"m still expecting a girl- mostly because I wouldn't know what to do with a boy- but either way I won't know til the bottom half comes out! And unless I find an intelligender kit on clearance I think I'll skip it, too. But I'm going to try out all the old wives tales and see what they say!

and fwiw, as a labor nurse I find the heartbeat thing to be completely inaccurate! LOL! I've seen plenty of girls running 120's and plenty of boys in the 150's. I try to pay attention to it, too. I think it actually does happen that girls often run higher but not frequently enough for it to be an accurate predictor.

According to my doctor the only time it is even close to accurate is during labor... and then, does it really matter? LOL, you are about to find out anyway!

They guessed based on heartbeat in the 70s when my mom was pregnant. All three of her daughters were supposed to be boys. Whoops.

I don't think the Chinese chart is cheating because I don't believe it's accurate at all.

We definitely plan to find out again. I want to know everything about my kid. If they could tell me his/her favorite color then I'd want to know that too!

I figure there's enough surprises about who this baby will be besides its gender.

Anybody ever use those urine tests that supposedly predict gender? I've seen them in drugstores.

We're not going to find out. I figure it's one of the few surprises we have left in life. I work in a maternity store and I hear a lot of, "Oh, I have to know. I'm a planner." I'm a big-time planner too and I just don't see what they're is to plan differently for a girl or boy. If you plan on having a big fancy decorated nursery that goes with a specific gender stereotype, sure. Have to have tons of pinky frilly dresses just because the kid has a vagina, ok. But nurseries can be decorated with animals, Winnie-the-Pooh, duckies, stuff like that. Dresses can be bought after the baby's born (it's not like they're going to be wearing anything but a diaper and a onesie the first couple of weeks anyway). So what else is there? Baby girls and baby boys use the exact same stuff and we've got names picked out for both, so I figure we're set.

I don't think it's cheating since it's not a real answer...

ETA: we don't find out on our babies
I don't think it's cheating! Just fun! I like this quiz:
http://www.childbirth.org/articles/boyorgirl.html
because it combines many old wives tales with the Chinese lunar calendar. Plus, they don't ask for any information from you, like email and junk.

ETA: Just noticed this was a due date club. Sorry to crash your party, mamas!

We're not finding out. We didn't find out with DD, and while I was dying of curiosity during my pregnancy, it was totally worth it for that moment when we found out. I get a little misty thinking about it.

Well, that is the only Chinese gender predictor that has been accurate for me as well - it got DD, our 12 week loss (boy) and this one it is predicting boy - so we will see! I do it all in fun though We probably will find out but won't tell anyone else IRL.

The chinese predictor has been right 66% of the time and predicts I will have a boy this time. It's never predicted a boy before. The quiz says I will have a girl (66% chance). Of course, I made up the 66% of the answers
