a POSITIVE nursing-in-public story

I live in Germany's fourth largest city. Today I was out by the river promenade with my babe and stopped on a bench to nurse. An older woman with a little girl maybe 6 y.o., most likely her granddaughter, sat on the bench next to me. As soon as I started nursing, the woman said "Oh I didn't know you were going to nurse, are we bothering you?", "No." I said and went on nursing. The little girl asked her Gramma a few questions, I didn't really pay much attention to what but I know they were talking about it, I think she was explaining what it was I was doing. Then the girl came over to the side where baby's head was and asked "May I watch?". "Of course." I said, and "He's getting milk from me, this is his lunch." She was very curious and fascinated.
It was so sweet!
My baby's very young and this was only my second time NIP. I have to admit I'm not ashamed at all about BFing, but a bit shy about doing it around others. This experience has encouraged me to keep relaxing more with it. So yay! Positive NIP stories do happen!

awesome! I love telling little kids that's how babies drink momma's milk.

So cute! Great story, mama!

On a related note, I think a lot of kids find BF to be fascinating. My DS, for one, asks me questions about it all the time. He nursed until about 8-9 months ago, but he wasn't asking questions about it then. Now that we have a LO on the way, he asks me all sorts of questions about it. When MIL gave me a new pump recently, DS was excited and wanted me to unpack it and show him how it works!! I definitely can imagine that he will want to be right there with me on the couch watching the newborn nursing sessions.
