yellow fever vaccine requirements while traveling

If we are traveling from Argentina to Ecuador is the yellow fever vaccine required? I noticed countries on the cdc list that allow waivers seem to have specific instructions on how to do it but Ecuador does not.

ecuador requirements according to CDC:

Quote:
Required from travelers ≥1 year of age coming from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission. Nationals and residents of Ecuador are required to possess certificates of vaccination on their departure to an area with risk of yellow fever transmission.
According to this page, Argentina is on the yellow fever list:

SO if we traveled from the USA to Argentina and stayed there, there would be no requirements. But if we then traveled on to Ecuador, we would be required to have the yellow fever vaccine?

experiences with this? has anyone gotten a waiver and used it successfully? what was the process? was it long? cause any issues at your point of entry?

Also- did you have to have it translated? did it need to be official?

I will definitely be asking the consulate these questions but they have so far not taken the time to call me back

How long will you be in Argentina? How are you entering Ecuador? Are you planning to go to areas where YF is endemic? I've made similar trips and have never asked for proof of vaccination, though I did hear that Brazil checks frequently and that some popular tourist destinations (tropical forests, conservation parks, etc.) ask for proof at entry even if immigration doesn't. If you can, try to get the ICVP along with the waiver. The ICVP says on it that physicians should issue a written opinion that you could put with the ICVP. If you have the ICVP, I don't think you need to have anything translated at all. I'm not sure if they would issue you the ICVP without getting the vaccination, but it seems like they could still put the date, signature, stamp, and "contraindicated" on the yellow card, and that would be ideal. If you can get a letter from your regular doctor and present it to the YF vax center, that might make it easier.

FWIW, we always travelled without waivers and have never had a problem, but I can understand not wanting to bet on that. FWIW, I got the YF vax over 10 years ago; and it is what made me stop and reevaluate my vaccination choices because it was nasty.

I spent a month in Peru and Equador and refused the yellow fever vax. I had no problems traveling without getting it. That was in 2004 so I don't know if requirements have changed.
