talk to me about jolly jumpers

I am thinking of getting one for my almost 6 mo who is sitting, crawling and pulling herself up to standing unassisted. I have heard they might be bad for hips/spines? I don't even usea stroller, mainly carry her in the ergo or sling, which she also naps in 90% of the time. Otherwise she crawls around on the floor...

Well, my mom used one with my sibs. My one brother loved the crap out of that thing. He has no spinal, etc. issues.

I bought one for my 6mo but my door frames are too tall.

We had a jumperoo - same idea I guess, only with it's own support system instead of a doorway. DS loved it from about 4-6 months, and it was really nice to have a place to put him for a few minutes to get something done. Once he could sit up on his own he was much more content, and we hardly ever used it. It's packed away now because he has passed the weight limit (25 lbs).

they aren't good for the baby's pelvis and spine because the weight of their legs in those seats pulls their pelvis into an anterior tilt (forward) which compresses the lower back (same thing in a baby bjorn). their skeleton isn't ready for them to stand until it's ready, ykwim? so until they can support their own weight over their legs they should sit with full support under their bottom, butt to knee (like how they are in the ergo) which doesn't stress the spine. also, since they the push off their toes to jump in the jumperoos, they can encourage toe walking and/or quad dominance.

it's my understanding that you can't get walkers or jumperoos in canada for these reasons. but all that said, they obviously aren't life threatening, just not somewhere you want your lo spending lots of time.

Get the Graco bumper jumper instead. All of the other models are horrible but the graco version is awesome.

Just put my son in one for the first time yesterday! I have some videos of me in one when I was a baby--enjoying it thoroughly.

I don't see how they could be as bad as a Bjorn since the baby is standing and supporting his/her weight rather than hanging. Also, babies generally don't (well, *shouldn't*) spend very long in them as opposed to a Bjorn. What, ten or fifteen minutes a day tops?

But of course these things are overused, just as exersaucers or even the floor are!

I have a jumperoo in the kitchen, and an exersaucer in the living room. I think I would worry about using them excessively, but they aren't used for long periods of time and are great when not overused.

Also, the models we use hold our son in a *seated* position when his legs are relaxed- when he bears eight on his legs, his pelvis does tip forward, but not in an unhealthy manner, so it isn't nearly the 'crotch dangler' people claim. Maybe there are some bad models, but ours are very good about that.

I think that it's just like any of the other self-supported toys for younguns-- you shouldn't leave them in it for extended periods of time. My Cecilia LOVES her jumparoo so much, she would be devastated if she didn't get to use it. She has the huge open mouthed grin and happiest noises the entire time she's in it. But she's only 4 months old (although with a ridiculously strong body; she "stands" in my arms rather than sitting) and I limit her to 10 minutes at a go in it.

I think if you left him in it all day, that would be bad (for several other reasons in addition to his hips) but for some small bursts of time while you get stuff done? No biggie.

I really want one but the one place in my house that would work well for it doesn't have a frame. We considered the Jumperoo, but don't have the floor space for it.

My son LOVED his, and he hated an excersaucer. It's used for such a short time, I think we used it maybe 2 months though.

Now he is 10 months and walking, and climbing. I don't think he has spine issues or issues with tippy-toe walking. I also don't think Bjorn's are the devil either, at least people are wearing their baby I mean anything it overused can be bad.

We just got this one on Monday and DD loves it.

She had been bouncing while being held and trying to get out of our arms, so we figured this would give her some freedom adn fun.
Se's in it about 30 minutes per day total right now. As she get's used to it, we may use it more for her.
She san sit and rest her legs as she likes, because it has ample butt area and doesn't make her totally dangle.

We don't have an exersaucer and I don't know what a jumperoo is but DD (7.5 mos) loves the jolly jumper. She's in it maybe twice a week for about 10-15 minutes at a time. She can hold her weight on her feet and does in the JJ with no problem. We have the JJ that comes with the stand because we don't have the proper door frames upstairs.

I believe they are fine for short intervals as long as baby has really good spine/head control. DD didn't really do well in it until about 5 months or so.
