Winter Coat?

My wonderful 18 year old daughter will be going to college this fall in Vermont. I need good WARM winter coat recommendations from other Mamas!

LL Bean has the warmest coats. Check the temp. rating for each coat though to make sure you get one that is warm enough. I have had mine for 15 years and it still looks brand new. It is also the warmest coat I have ever owned!

columbia has really nice, warm 3-in-1 coats that aren't hugely bulky. i got mine off ebay since it was way cheaper there. i usually get the kids jacket/snowpants that way too. the columbia stuff is warm, holds up well, and then i resell it after they outgrow it.

I know it's super expensive (it was a Christmas gift for me), but I have a long, down Patagonia jacket in black. Because it's black and a little more stylish than some jackets it doesn't look too poofy. It covers my thighs and is just so warm and comfortable.

I've lived in VT my whole life and never really found a coat i was 100% happy with keeping me warm! I usually get Columbia, but even then i need a sweater or sweatshirt under it....brrr it gets coooollllldddd here

I'm in NH, and my Columbia does a pretty good job, but I do also always wear a layer or three under it. Honestly, I'm a huge fan of huge wool sweaters with several layers under them, unless it's ridiculously cold (below zero) or I need to dress up.

Yeah, some warm layers to mix and match makes all the difference.
Silk undershirts/leggings, plenty of wool everywhere, and definitely a warm hat that she likes.
And, of course, a layer needs to be windproof

Warm, dry feet are so important, too- I live in smartwools 7 months of each year!

Yay, Smartwool! We've got an LL Bean outlet here in Concord so I usually get mine there. They even had ones for infants, so Skyler will have some this winter!
