Help me figure out my stash!

I have slightly over $300 to spend (I've capped my spending at $310) but I need diapers that will take me from 1 or 2 weeks old to potty training. This doesn't include the pail/sprayer/detergent/ect. Of the 3 brands I am looking at I found 14 combinations.

-The Sunbaby diapers are off of ebay (the 3.0s) but they seem to have very good reviews now that they fixed a PUL problem. They're a one-size pocket diaper and I've only included the buying options that come with twice the inserts as pockets.
-The Bumgenius are the 4.0 One-size.
-Cotton Babies and this seller on Ebay have free shipping so that isn't a cost factor.
-Fewest changes are assuming I need a new cover every change

All one Kind

50 Sunbaby (50 changes)
12 Flip/36 inserts (12-36 changes)
18 Bumgenius (18 changes)

BG & Flip only

12 Bumgenius & 4 Flip covers with 12 inserts (16-24 changes)
6 Bumgenius & 8 Flip covers with 24 inserts (14-30 changes)
3 Bumgenius & 10 Flip covers with 30 inserts (13-33 changes)

With Sunbaby

30 Sunbaby & 4 Flip covers/12 inserts (34-42 changes) [can add 1 BG]
30 Sunbaby & 7 bumgenius (37 changes)
20 Sunbaby & 6 Flip covers/18 inserts (26-38 changes) [can add 1 or 2 BG]
20 Sunbaby & 10 Bumgenius (30 changes)
10 Sunbaby & 12 Bumgenius (22 changes)
10 Sunbaby & 5 bumgenius & 6 Flip covers/18 inserts (21-33 changes)
10 Sunbaby & 2 bumgenius & 4 Flip covers/12 inserts (16-30 changes)
10 Sunbaby & 10 Bumgenius & 2 Flip/6 inserts (22-26 changes)

Which would you choose and why?
Any other brand combinations for 2+ days of diapering for $300 (including brands not listed)?

Thank you!

Hmm it sounds like you're going whole hog before you've even had a chance to use any of the dipes. I did that and unfortunately everything I bought I couldn't use due to a PUL=diaper rash issue. I bought expensive too! BG organics and cute WHAM printed ones. So my advice is to head over to diaperswappers.com and get one of each type (prefold, flat, fitted, pocket, AIO, AI2, wool covers, hybrids, etc) hold them in your hot little hands see what you like best; try them on your babe and see what she likes best and THEN invest in your stash.

Just my two cents. Good luck!

The baby's not here yet... and I really don't want to wait and then not have anything to put on his butt!

Its one of those things where I feel like I have to trust reviews. Cloth diapers... I'd have to wait until the baby is already here while I use disposables (and rely on short return policies)! Its frustrating. I don't even have a cloth store in the area so it would take weeks to exchange things unless I felt like paying extra for shipping.

Too many things nowadays go on 15-60 day return policies. Do people seriously think we sit around with an empty house until our water breaks or something?

what about jilliansdrawers trial package? you get to try different types; if you don't want to keep you get refunded all but ten bucks....i'm looking at this ATM.

eta the nb pkg you can order ahead--before lo and the trial doesn't start til babe comes.

Oh yeah good idea. I think other online cd stores do the same thing as well.

i agree, get a small nb stash and wait and see what you like to use and what fits your child.
chances are you won't want to use the same style for both newborn and toddlerhood.

my plan is to go with cheap prefolds at first and then think about fitted or pockets for the toddler/potty learning phase.
so far dd2 is 7m and i'm still loving the prefolds!

i'm also only out ~$120 so. nice to space out the $ if possible.

My friend has a 1 year old who's not over the 50th percentile and she just told me that the flips she bought are adjusted all the way out and she can't see how they are "one size".

HTH.

I have to say I like you wanted all my ducks in a row and got my newborn stash all ready in advance - and then wound up using disposables for the first 10 days anyhow. The cloth diapers rubbed her umbilical stump (I use swaddlebees with a snap down tab for stumps) and made it bleed and it didn't feel right. She even got blood on her clothes! So you may find that you wind up using disposables at the beginning even if you don't plan to...

Plus my opinion is I can't imagine a diaper that holds a toddler's pee in fitting an itty bitty newborn without making their legs stick out strangely from all the layers of folding. Maybe get a couple dozen prefolds and some covers, and plan to sell them a few months down the road to fund your older baby stash?

I understand where you're coming from. I think you should just buy some newborn diapers--either something like Snugglebottoms that isn't very expensive, or something like Kissaluvs that has high resale value. Then your baby's bottom will be covered, and then you can worry about what to buy in the larger sizes.

I definitely agree with PP about getting a few different things to try out first before getting EVERYTHING you plan on using.

Everything I got for kiddo I no longer use. I mostly got BG and now they are gone. I hate the stay dry fabric they use. It feels gross to me and I don't think it was the most comfortable option for kiddo either.

Honestly, I'd get some flats off gmd and a couple thirsties covers. You can spend about 60 bucks on 24 flats and two covers which is plenty for a newborn so you can fill in the gaps on figuring out what you want. Newborns are the easiest to do those on because they don't roll away while you learn the folds and such. If you find you like flats more than the other things you've tried, you can buy two dozen more for about 30 dollars and a few more covers (I personally like 4 in each size myself) and you'll come under your 310 goal quite easily leaving plenty for other CDing accessories. 48 flats will be perfect for newborn to potty trained beacuse that is enough to double and even triple up the flats for a heavy wetter and nighttime. another dozen is 15 bucks so getting more at any point is easy anyway.

flats or prefolds like suggested as well are so much cheaper making it less annoying to get one or two of different styles and brands to try out before getting an entire 2 days worth stash of them. trying one or two out for a couple weeks will give the same idea of preference without spending all the extra money on something you are going to not use and will have to turn around and try to sell. Selling a couple diapers is MUCH easier than selling 18+ and you'll lose less money.
