This is why I just want to hole up in the mountains somewhere - Page 2

I also would "take a break" from the kids at the very least. We have no hs group or church or anything so I was more lenient about neighbor kids than I should have been. A neighbor girl started coming over and even told me she's a liar because it makes her life "less boring". At first she was ok but recently started making fun of my 2yo's stuttering, picking on my 5 & 8 yo's and hurting my ds. Finally we told her she can't come over if she isn't nice and we haven't seen her since. I feel kind of bad for my oldest who was her friend, but influences like that have no place in our life.

I agree that you should keep your kids away from others who are a really bad influence, but I also feel that our kids have to live in the real world, too. We kind of have to trust that we've instilled proper values and beliefs in them, and then we have to let them out into the world to become their own people. I know they're still pretty young, though...

We were pretty sheltered as kids, and it made it a lot harder for me to interact with people who didn't think like us and made my shyness that much worse. I look back and wish they'd given us a little more freedom.
