If you were BFing throughout the night, when did you get your cycle back?

I thought about posting this in TTC, but since I am not actively TTC, I think this may be the place.

My 17 month old nurses nurses nurses nonstop throughout the day and at night. He isn't that much into food, but I offer OFTEN and hope it'll catch on eventually. He does eat, but some days it'll be a lot and others hardly anything at all. He has a CRAZY FAST metabolism like his father and is tall and lean with a NEED to nurse.
I cannot night wean him because I believe he really NEEDS the milk. He doesn't just nurse because it's there, but because he wakes up ravenous.

I heard that you don't usually get your period if you nurse between 1am-4am (I could be off on the time). I haven't gotten mine yet. I am just curious what everyone's experience has been. Did you pretty much night wean before you got your cycle back?

DH and I are talking about #2 and we don't see our DS slowing down at all. I don't want to push food down his throat or night wean. Is this just nature's way of telling me that my son still needs me all to himself?

My kid nurses on average about three to four times every night. One/two of those times is between 1-4. I got my period back at about ten months, and by 12 months it was regular.

I didn't miss it when it was gone darn it.

My daughter was 18 months old when my son was conceived. She was still nursing a lot at night. I caught the first egg.

ETA: my dd is now 3 and my ds is 13 mos. My period hasn't returned. Both are nursing, but only my ds nurses at night. I thought I was pregnant last week, but the test was negative. Still no period.

One year on the dot. With no change in nursing habits. That also signaled the end of being able to eat as I pleased and lose weight.

I am the odd ball out here. I got my period back at 8 wks with my last 2 who nursed through the night. I am still nursing my 2yo around 4 times a night and she has never slept through the night.

I think I am the unlucky one. I would love to not have it...

With my dd1 & ds2- it came back right at 6 months pp. They were both exclusively breastfed- no pacifiers or anything. Nursed through the night.

My ds is almost 8 months and I still haven't gotten it back. I am tandem nursing my 2.5 yo and the baby so maybe that's it.

I got pregnant (caught the first pp egg) at 19 months. dd was still nursing through the night. I think what triggered it was I left her with dh for a day and went 13 hours without nursing.

13 months, not regular though until 19 months (at which point she was still nursing at least every 3 hours at night).

13.5 months and then not again until 15 or so, same with #2.

Still waiting at 8.5 months w/ #3 although she doesn't nurse as much so we will see.

not quite as unlucky as you, but I got mine back at 6mos, despite DS nursing 3-4x a night at least (every 2 hours) BUT, mine is super irregular, I think I didn't get another one until 9 mos, then 11mos, and then 12.5mos, and now again this week at 14mos. So not quite back to normal! Not sure if I am actually ovulating or not. He now nurses usually only 1x a night.

First 18 months, I get pregnant at 19 months and miscarriage due another health issue. I get pregnant with my second a year later. It end up with the perfect gap between children for us.
Second 16 months. My family is complete not, so no more TTC.

3 months with my first - nursing every 2 hours overnight (was still nursing frequently overnight when I got pregnant when DS was 14 months)
7 weeks with my second - nursing every 3-4 hours overnight

Ds nurses all the time and often all night long (wake up with a soggy nipple and realize he's been on for 4-5 hours straight) and I got my period back at 7 months.

After 1st kid: by 6 months pp
2nd: 15 months pp
3rd: 10 months pp
4th: 14 months pp (and probably only due to stress, major life change happened)
5th: I thought I was one of the "unlucky ones" because for the first couple months of her life, I got a period every couple of weeks pp, but after her surgery at 2.5 months old, I haven't bled anymore...hopefully, it'll stay away for a couple of years!

How to view it is really up to you. Sure he needs you, but that doesn't mean you can't nightwean or have another baby. Or pump and give bottles at night if you would like to conceive soon. I've always enjoyed having a baby and toddler at the same time.

got my period back around 15 months, concieved DS2 just before 18 months.

just wanted to add-- my DS also "needed" the calories at night, but once we nightweaned after I got pregnant, he started eating tons of solids through the day. if you want to nightwean, he will make up for those "lost" calories during the day.

we nurse through the night and i got my period back early by these standards on this thread. it was around 6mos pp or so. it's not super regular though almost 11mos out.

3 months! ds was ebf (for a while afterward too), so I had 6 weeks of pp bleeding and then 6 weeks "off" and then BAM right back on schedule!
