I used a diaphragm years ago & hated it. First, you always have to use the spermicide. That irritates my skin a bit & I don't like that you can't mix up oral & vagina sex (ick, the taste of that stuff!) So I find it 'disruptive' to the act.
But also, you have to leave it in for something like 4 or 6 hours after sex. Ick!
So DH & I used withdraw with great success for 23 months after DS was born! Seriously!
Not that I'm going to really recommended it if you want something with a high success rate, but I recently read that it's a myth that some sperm are released before ejaculation. The only reason some sperm would be present prior to his orgasm is if he ejaculated earlier & had not urinated sometime in the interim to rinse the urethra. The FIRST TIME he didn't withdraw anywhere near my fertile time, we conceived - & we conceived #1 quickly too, so I know withdraw was very successful for us.
As for condoms, I never had any break when I was using lube. Not sure if that's just me, but something to bear in mind to make them more successful. They always seemed to almost 'absorb' my natural lube, so we needed to add some. KY Liquid is our fav.
