need help...

Hi mamas!

I'm extremely new to this site (second post). I was told about EC a week ago by a friend and she suggested this site for soem good info and communication with other moms.

so, here's my issue.. I have a 6 month old that I really want to EC with. He's an amazing child really...just love him to pieces. So, I tried EC one day..just taking him to the potty when I noticed him grunting to poop but by the time I get to him and get him to the potty.. he's already done.. so, I just held him there for a minute anyway and said potty a lot and made a ssssss sound. Everytime I thought he was going I did just that. It got bothersome to hold him over the toilet (he's a whopping 22lbs) so I went out and got a potty chair.

so, here we are days later.. and still I have yet to catch a single thing! I even know he poops semi regularly within a half hour of waking. I put him on the potty in the am and nothing... but then after I give up and put the diaper back on it's within minutes that he's pooped. ugh! I'm really not frustrated yet, because I know it's going to take time.. especially since I started to try this at 6 months (wish wish wish I knew about this earlier!)

so I guess I'm just posting to see if anyone can give me tips or suggestions! Anyone else try so late with a similar experience? I just need ot be encouraged and know that it will work eventually. LOL help!

Welcome Kezler to EC world!..
I don't think that is late start to EC with a 6 mo baby. I started with my first at 12 mo and we have a very happy experience with it.
First I think that you DS is really smart to understand that the place that you offered before (diapers) is the right place to eliminate. To reverse that, you probably have to "work" a little extra so he can indentify the potty as a valid place to pee and pooh. I don't know how feasible could be that you can offer lots of diaper free time. Also, what kind of diaper are you using now?..I highly recommend a non-waterproof diaper, so you can identify inmediately when is peeing . Then you make verbal about what is happening with his body. ..."See you pee ..Pees is goes in the potty "'.. Change him inmediately. Then continue without distress in wherever you were doing. You may offer the poty after you have a miss. They started to make to conection between where you expect his pee and poo goes.
If you have a miss on the floor, just clean it and offer the potty. Don't forget to look it up for his own cues.
Many babies have cues that are hard to indentify, some others are very noticiable. I have one of each. LOL. My first bended her knees together. My second he almost don't have any veasible cue. Later He started to bouncy from side by side.
I hope it can help.

thank you for your thoughts and experience!

I got some cloth diapers, since I was reading that those help the baby to be aware of the wetness and whatnot. Yesterday was a successful day! We had one poop and 3 pees in the potty! (I'm sure we would have had more had we not left the house for most of the day.)

what do people do when they leave the house? take the potty with them?

personally I had baby in diapers when we were out and just offered her a potty chance if it was convenient. But when she was a baby, she rarely if ever used the potty if we were out, and seemed to wait to use a diaper when we were in the car.

Now at 15m she is almost always dry when we are out (actually most misses are at home). When out, I offer potty when big bro or I is using the bathroom- I just help her sit on the regular toilet.
