Newborn virus, rash and shallow breathing

Anyone's baby ever have this? We've had a terrible week. We brought Eliza to the emergency room on Monday with shallow rapid breathing. When we got there we noticed a rash had spread over her whole body. We now think the rash may have just been a heat rash, but no one knows. They put her through a ton of tests, spinal tap, catheter, it was awful, and found no bacterial infection. After 72 hours of monitoring, they diagnosed a viral infection and sent us home. She doesn't really act sick or anything, but her breathing is still not right. I am sick with worry. Have any of you mamas heard of this before?

Wow, we just went through the same thing with baby Alayna born July 28. She had fever of 102. I was told the shallow breathing was because of the fever. They only kept us 48 hours for the blood culture results, no spinal tap. She was givin antibiotics by IV just in case but bacterial infections were ruled out. I noticed the rash was much worse after we were released. I also thought it was heat rash. Alayna was already acting better so I didn't worry too much. I'm allowed to give infant Tylenol if needed but haven't needed to.

I am grateful I was allowed to sleep in a bed in the room and breastfeed and she was not supplemented at all.

I knew it was likely a virus because my 7 year old DD Ruby had a temp 101.3 a week before with vomiting.

I hope Eliza is also feeling better.

Wow, well, maybe it is the same thing then. They gave Eliza two days of antibiotics too. She has not had a fever, but my 3 year old DS spiked a tempt the wednesday before, but it was gone in less than 12 hours. Oh, I hope this clears up soon. Is your DD feeling better?

Yes my Dd #1 got better very quickly as well...she was doing round off back handsprings at gymnastics the next morning. Baby Alayna is doing just fine now, its me that is still feeling freaked out. I've never been admitted to a hospital and neither has anyone else in my immediate family. We have a check up sheduled Tuesday so I'll let you know how it goes.

Did the rash go away?

Take care and

The rash did go away and her breathing is a little better today. How long before your baby's breathing was back to normal? It is so scary, isn't it?! to you too!!!
