Infection, possibly staph - WWYD?

DD (15 months) developed a diaper rash earlier this week, that was on her bottom and her outer labia. I used Hyland's diaper rash ointment, and then noticed on Thursday night that there was a bump on her labia. The next morning, it was a sore.

So I took her to the doctor, who diagnosed an infection - not yeast, maybe staph. Prescribed antibiotic ointment, and gave me a prescription for an oral antibiotic in case it gets worse over the weekend. But he was pretty confident that the ointment would do the trick.

Here's my dilemma: we use cloth about 75% of the time and disposables the other 25%. My husband won't put her in cloth, and I'm ok with that. We've been using Luvs for about a month with no problems. I haven't changed the detergent I use for the cloth diapers, but I did start using Imse Vimse diaper liners recently. So I'm thinking that's what may have caused the rash, and then she pooped overnight and I changed her when she woke up, so maybe that caused the infection.

She has very sensitive skin and got chemical burns from Pampers DryMax when she was an infant, and from Charlie's Soap when I switched to cloth. We've been using Country Save with no problems for probably 10 months.

I've washed all her dipes like crazy and bleached the non-PUL, then did an extra wash and rinse. Is that enough? Would you stick to only cloth for the time being, or only sposies in this situation? I'm so conflicted.

TIA!

The SAME thing happened to us a few weeks ago. The antibiotic cream they gave us was terrible on our cloth diapers- even with liners. I put DD in sposies - they were they only thing that kept her dry and absorbed anything after that cream got on it. Do whatever you can!

Thanks!

How long did it take for the infection to go away? Did you switch back to cloth when it was gone?

We've only used sposies today and I'm thinking we'll stick with that until the infection is gone, but I'm nervous about going back to cloth, though I want to. How do you make sure that pocket diapers that you can't bleach are staph-free, if that's what the infection is? Is washing on extra hot enough?

It took a few weeks for the sores to close up. She still has a scar from one of them! It was really awful. I just kept the cream on them and let her air out as much as possible.

I disinfect my diapers by soaking them in HOT HOT water and a 1/4 cup of oxy clean. Oxy Clean Free is totally cd safe and is a disinfectant ( sodium percabonate which is solid hydrogen peroxide).

It takes awhile for things to get cleared up, but you should be fine once the sores heal and you have oxy soaked your diapers. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice! I think I'll cry if DD gets a scar on her hoohah.
