Questions about diaper pail and laundry

Okay, first off, we just started CDing and so far it's going great. I am just curious if I should keep my dirty diapers in a dry pail or should I have any water or vinegar in the pail? So far, I've just kept them in a dry pail and when the pail is full, I wash them (every day to every other day). They smell pretty funky when I throw them in the washer, but come clean. We also have a fruit fly issue due to all of the produce in our house lately, and they tend to be very attracted to the dirty diapers. I'm not really sure what to do about this bc I'm afraid they're going to lay eggs in the diapers. I promise we are not dirty people lol Any advice? TIA ladies.

Dry pails work the best for us and help keep away stinkies. Cider vinegar is a great way to catch fruit flies. Leave a glass with about 2 inches of vinegar out. Make a paper cone with the tip cut open. Place the cone in the glass ( make sure the tip sits a few inches off the vinegar) so the flies can't get out!

dry pail is fine - if you add liquid you have to start worrying about spills, mold, and dumping/refilling the pail. who needs that?!

Yup, dry pail here too. My dipes smell super funky by the time I through them in the washer but that is totally normal.

Good to know the trick for fruit flies, we get them with all the fresh garden goodies as well.

We used to use a wet pail when DS was little, and I do think we had less stink issues. But now we do a dry pail with a rinse before and after the wash cycle. Easier than lugging a heavy diaper pail around the house.

Thanks for the replies! Good to know that a dry pail is the way to go. I kinda thought adding water or vinegar could cause mold issues. Thanks for the fruit fly tip too! I'm def going to do that today..they are so annoying!

With DS#1 I did a wet pail. Ick. Of course, that was like 100 years ago! LOL It was always such a PIA.

Now I do a dry pail, and I just sprinkle some baking soda in the pail, and we haven't had any issues with stink. Well, yeah, they smell funny going in, but always come out fine.

My mom is staying with me right now, and she cloth diapered all her children (4) using a wet pail, and even she commented on how much easier the dry pail system is and how well it works.

Always had a dry pail here, too. I would add a bit of vinegar at times to the washer if they smelled funky.
