YES! I finally found the right job!!!

SEVEN MONTHS, 25 resumes, 8 interviews, and four offers later, I FINALLY FOUND THE RIGHT JOB FOR ME!!!

This was the longest job search I've ever conducted and WOW was it hard, but I have finally landed a good job. It's over 1,000 miles away from home, but it's in a beautiful, low COL location with the biggest salary I've ever had. My one big sticking point- the reason I declined 3 other offers- is job flexibility and this position lets me work 100% from a home office and does not track hours worked. I also have access to a private office on a university campus, so if things get noisy at home, I can hang out there.

I wanted to share this becuase although it was a hard, stressful job search, it shows that there ARE employers out there who care enough about employees to create a work environment that allows family to come first and for employees to thrive in an environment where results matter more than hours.

Also, if you're in the middle of your job search, DON'T DESPAIR! There is something out there for you!!! It might take awhile, but something will come your way!

I am teaching three courses this fall, but that's all online. Yes, we're moving becuase although I am working from home, I have to live in the area in order to actually do the job. The job centers around building community relationships, something that requires that I live within the community.

Congrats! It sounds wonderful. I think online teaching is ideal for a lot of people - especially parents of LO's.

Thanks again for the nice remarks. I am floored that I finally found something that works for my family.

To clarify- my office happens to be on campus, but it's not a teaching position; I'm actually working for a nonprofit and the university was kind enough to lend out some office space and a phone line. The teaching gig is a separate thing. What makes me really happy is that if the office sits there and collects dust becuase I'm always working from home, everyone is totally okay with that.

Congratulations!

I just found an INCREDIBLY family centered job and it's a non-profit as well. It's a family treatment and adoption agency, so I'm not surprised that they are so helpful. Many people bring their kids in to work when they need to, the hours are COMPLETELY flexible in my department, and everyone loves to ask about my daycare plans and if I need help finding anything.

Isn't it amazing to feel like your employers are excited about your family? Like you wouldn't have to be embarrassed or worried about telling your boss you're pregnant or letting your interviewers know you have kids. So refreshing!

Congrats again!

I wish more mamas had stories like this to share. ALL of us should have flexible work options and the autonomy to put our families first.
