Putting LO down in side-carred crib

In theory, I love our set up: a queen-sized bed with a crib side-carred. The crib is against the wall on the other side. The reality is that in order to put DD down, I have to crawl across the bed. Last week, we were travelling and had the pack and play with us, and was amazed at how easy it was to put her down in it because I DIDN"T have to crawl across anything. I"m just wondering how others put their kids down if you have a side-car set up. Am I missing something obvious? (BTW-- even if we didn't have the crib against the wall, we wouldn't be able to put her down from the other side because the side of the crib is too high.)

I have the same problem. I think it's a PITA, and I am getting ready to change the set up anyway because my 11mo has started escaping and crawling off the bed.

Whoops, responded to a post instead of making my own. Sorry
