Hi everyone,

I've been sporadically posting to MDC since I was pregnant with my DD in 2005. She's 4.5 now and we're in the process of trying to figure out what's going on with her. She definitely has SPD (sensory seeking, hypo-sensititivies and more), has dyspraxia and postural disorder as well. We're in the middle of an assessment for Autism as it's been suggested she may be on the spectrum. She has huge difficulties interacting socially with her peers. She cannot talk to kids for the most part. Over the past 7 months I've had 2 OT assessments done and she's receiving OT from a local private clinic. It's been helping with the fine and gross motor deficits. They also do some facilitated play there which (I hope!) is helping with her social issues.

Anyway, we're struggling with behavior issues and these have been getting worse over time. DD has very low frustration tolerance, tantrums a lot, has severe separation anxiety (since birth) and a sleep disorder. Sustained-release melatonin has helped some with the sleep issue.

So, I hope that wasn't too much for an intro. I'm looking forward to getting some advice here and most of all some perspective. There are days that are VERY hard for me to keep my calm. Especially when she starts yelling at her little brother (he's 15 months). Heh.

Welcome! My DD is 4.5, too. They sound similar in some ways--social anxiety, SPD (although my DD is overresponsive), fine motor delays (due to low muscle tone).

There was an ongoing SPD support thread here earlier this year...maybe we should revive it. Sounds like a lot of us need the support right now (myself included!). I have a hard time coping, too. I've been seeing a counselor for my own anxiety and depression and to gain some skills for better meeting my own needs as well as DD's. At the very least, it helps to have an outside person to vent to.

and welcome.

My name is Linda and I have a 13 year old DD on the spectrum. She has lots of sensory issues, anxiety, sleep issues, she doesn't really do social interaction etc.

She is also a great kid who loves to read, likes to garden, and has swam competitively.
