I don't *think* it would burn off, but it might not be heat stable. Well, I got out my lab notebook
this morning and here's what I did (I'm 7 dpo so it's a little early to expect anything):
*Tested the FMU - stark white BFN.
*Split it up into two containers - put one in the freezer (this is what DH suggested I do last night when I told him about the experiment LOL) and one in a water bath on the stove.
*The one in the freezer I ended up leaving in there for 35 minutes, until there were ice crystals/chunks in there, then tested. Stark white BFN.
*The one on the stove, I had a little trouble getting the right temp. I had wanted to heat it to 55 C for 10 minutes or something but I ended up very slowly heating it up to about 52 and then leaving it there for 10 minutes and then cooling it down a little while it was still in the water bath. So all in all it was applied to heat for about the same time as the other one was in the freezer. The volume was decreased by ~25%. Tested, stark white BFN.
So this tells us nothing so far except that you don't get false positives this early from doing this. I can continue on with the experiment but I only have 10 tests left right now so I can only do ONE (freezer or heat) and still have a control and be able to get through 12 dpo. Which do you guys think I should do?
And of course if I'm not pregnant this cycle the experiment will be useless, but hey, my ICs are cheap.
