Amniotic fluid or urine? (TMI warning)

I really shouldn't be asking this... This isn't my first time giving birth (or even my first time with labour beginning with ROM if that's what this is, it happened to me last time).

But I'm doubting myself and I wanted some input from people who aren't obsessing like I am.

I went to bed as usual tonight but felt a little funny feeling a while later. No leaking, nothing came of it so I went to sleep. When I woke up I went pee and had a huge pee (TMI) but I had also had a lot to drink before bed so I just went on with my night.

I got up again because I couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep. I went pee and it was another regular size one. I wondered about ROM so I lay back down and then got up 15 minutes later with a premium size prefold between my legs and the liquid coming out of me soaked through it (I had it folded in half and then trifolded, so six layers).

Since then I've been testing and for the last hour every 10 to 15 minutes I get up and try again with a dry prefold between my legs and I've soaked through every one.

The fluid is clear (no colour at all, even a hint, on the bleached pf fabric). It doesn't smell like urine but it doesn't smell like it did when I had ROM last time either (which was confirmed by the midwife as amniotic fluid and I continued to leak it until he was born). It doesn't really smell like anything.

There is no way I could be making urine that fast right? Nothing comes out when I sit down on the toilet either so I assume that his head is blocking it then?

Input would be appreciated. I am leaning towards ROM, but it's so early for me (36 weeks, 4 days... my second pregnancy was shorter than my first but even then ROM was at 37 weeks, 6 days) so I am seriously doubting myself too.

*sigh* If only there was a manual

Do you see any little hairs in it or on the liner?I think I read years ago on here that that is a sign of amnio fluid versus pee.
Mine usually smells kinda sweet. My water breaks and soon after I start getting the serious this is it contractions.
I hope you find out for sure soon.Good luck!

O little hairs but I didn't have last time either.

An hour later and I'm still able to soak a prefold every 10-15 minutes. When I bear down more fluid comes out on the prefold but nit on the toilet (sitting vs standing). Is there any chance I could be making pee this fast? It seems really unlikely to me because it's not drops of fluid, it's a flow.

It just does not sound like pee, at all. If not pee, amniotic fluid is the top suspect.

Sounds like things are starting to happen for you, and 36w, 4d is not terribly early, either.

I agree. Many women do experiences 'diuresis' as labor draws near--which means *a lot* of peeing as your body starts to release some of the extra fluid you took on (normally), into your bloodstream with pregnancy. And what you describe does sound like rupture of membranes--possibly compounded by diuresis. I would be drinking plenty of water/clear fluid, and keeping everything out of my vagina until confirmation is made.

good luck! And happy birthing
