Can't believe what others think about vbac

I was on another pregnancy site and a woman said she couldn't have a vbac because she didn't wait two years. Then she said the risk from a vbac is the baby coming through the original cut in the uterus. I couldn't NOT respond and I had to give some better information. I also directed her here and to ICAN. I'm just shocked that someone would think that.

I hear ya.

I just saw the new, 2nd baby of friends of ours. They are both physiotherapists and for her second, she elected to have a repeat c/s. I had thought, since they are in the medical field, that she'd explore her options and really do some research on VBAC, but it appears not. I remember asking her about it a few months back (while I was still high on my HBAC) and could tell by her face she just wasn't interested in the idea. I just can't imagine why someone would opt to do that a second time!! Fear of the unknown, I guess?

I have a friend who is in PT also and she said she wants an elective c/s if she ever has children because childbirth is "so damaging to your muscles." She even tried to tell me about all the complications with tearing...My response was telling her that those complications arent' that common but a c/s is a major abdominal surgery. It was weird to see someone who just got her Phd act like a 15 year old about something that is supposed to naturally happen to your body.

I know a girl who had a c/s then with her second, she went into labor and still opted for a c/s. She was pretty much completely uneducated about it all and didn't want the pain of labor.

OMG, I soooo understand! I really really struggle with when to keep my mouth shut and when to go ahead and say a word or two. Like when my friend opted for a c/s with her 3rd baby after 2 successful vaginal births since her baby "might be big" and her FIRST baby was difficult to birth (although her second was not)...and baby #3 ended up being her smallest!! (Thank you innacurate ultrasounds!) I had to say a few words, but she "trusted her doctor"....***insert eye roll***

I just hate the bad information that people spread...especially the junk that they heard from a friend of a friend. Or just their opinions that they spread to others that take it as fact! Or my favorite is a friend was in nursing school about 10 years ago and heard "facts" back then....so, I had to inform her that her information was outdated and new VBAC info comes out all of the time showing new, better, safer data!

ARG....just burns me!!!
