Red inner eye lids in my GSD

Is this normal or common?

His inner eyelids (as in: what is seen when you pull down on the flesh beneath the eyes) are quite red and have been since we brought him home to live with us two months ago.

He seems perfectly healthy in every way, is almost 8 months old and very active. I'm feeding him Orijen dog food supplemented with raw meat and cooked bones here and there. But, actually, I do not think it has to do with diet because the redness was there when he came to live with us. I should also add that we live in a very high heat climate (average of 100 degrees daily for several months this time of year).

Thanks for any advice.

Hi....are his 3rd eyelids swollen? Or any discharge? Does he seemed bothered by it-rubbing face pawing at face?

Our husky had that. The vet said it was normal irritation. Could be environmental allergies, could be irritation from sand or dirt or something.

my aussie had that. she also had cataracts but it was unrelated.

hers were caused by eyelashes growing in and irritating her eye. every so often i'd check and pluck the ones growing towards her eyes. i think she was also more sensitive to allergies.

Hmm . . interesting stuff to think about. Thanks for the replies, friends. No, there doesn't seem to be anything else that stands out as unusual with his eyes and his health in general. Guess I'll just keep an eye on it (jeez, no other way to say that!) and watch for any changes.
