Operator error?? Maya ring sling

Hi!

I put my 12 day old baby in the ring sling for the first time today using the tummy to tummy hold. She really enjoyed it, even fell asleep!

Except I had two problems: first, I am pretty sure I messed up putting her in because the rings were right at her head and I had to hold the rings to keep them from hitting her head.

Second, she pooped, which went... okayish.. but then she peed. And the pee soaked through the diaper, her clothes, and the sling (and my clothes!).

My guess is that I had her legs positioned wrong so that the diaper wasn't able to catch it. Any ideas why that might have happened? Or what I can do to fix it?

Thanks!

next time, grab her butt and support her weight with one hand, then grab the sling and slide the fabric around you both to get the rings into the right place.

Make sense? I can try to explain it better if it doesn't

I have never had an issue with a diaper leak in a sling, was it a CD? I would imagine when you are scooting the sling around, you will be able to feel if the diaper is in a crooked spot and shift that to.

Oh, and the leg position, a lot of people cross their legs, lotus position, but My DS never cared for that and would try and pry his legs out the top, so I would let them hang down. Either way works, it just depends on what works for you two!

Yay for sleeping baby in the sling! It take a little bit to master positioning, but keep trying, you'll have it down soon! Until then, you can slide her like the previous person said.

As for the diaper, I'm not sure if this is the issue or not, but I always found my newborn was ready for the next size diaper once pee started leaking. This can happy pretty early depending on how quickly your little one gains weight. Both my babies would have leaky diapers though and it would stop as soon as I started using the next size up.

I've been having the same issue with the rings and I found that the rings move down when I pull to tighten the sling, so I try to start with them higher on my shoulder.

Exactly what I was going to say!
It also helps if you don't loosen the rings up much when you take the baby back out of the sling - that when when you go to use it again, you don't have to do a lot of tightening to get it perfect. (& thus the rings don't move a lot.)

Sometimes the rings are just in a position that touches babe's head. I counter this by wrapping the tail around the rings as a cushion and tucking them in.
