Mesh Panties?

Thread Starter
I LOVE the mesh panties. My birth kit my midwife provided came with a couple of depends but I'd like to have a few pair of the mesh undies the hospital provided me with my first time around.

I don't understand the hate the mesh undies get...everyone I talk to hated them but I thought they were fantastic!

Anyone know where I can order some for a reasonable price?

They have some at http://www.inhishands.com/html/orderbirth.html (under the "OB Pads" secion). $1.40 each, which seems pretty good but I'm not sure how it compares with prices elsewhere.

My birthkit came with some and I ordered extra. The were more nylon-feel than the ones I'd gotten at the hospital but I liked them a lot.

I'd never wear depends after birth.

I got mine from InHisHands.com, too, and loved them after my last birth! I know I have at least one pair around still (they wash up fine), and will make sure to have some extras.

Medela makes them as well. I got mine from the pharmacy in the breastfeeding/maternity/pregnancy section

The best thing to come of modern maternity care! I'm with you, love the mesh panties. I got mine from inhishands.com also, very comfy. But you can get them at most birth supply sites.

Count me as another mama who thought they were super comfy & loved them! Although DH saw them & laughed because they reminded him of fish-net panty hose, which, considering those are very sexy lingerie, would be an odd thing to wear immediately after giving birth.

ok mama's i am trying to understand this.

i never understood the mesh panties.

why do you like them so much.

is it because its easier to wear thick pads with the mesh panties as opposed to regular panties. i ask this because i use pads when i get my periods.

of course compared to depends i can understand the love for mesh panties.

but what about compared to regular panties. however i will say i found them super comfy. but did not understand why mesh.

Interesting Q.
Let's see - I've never liked thongs, something deliberately up my butt is rather unpleasant, so I hate when my panties get a 'wedgie'. The mesh panties stay in place & don't 'ride up' or ride around like so many other panties.

That's also nice so the pad stays in place.

Since they're mesh, they're breathable & cool. (DS was born in July & Baltimore is very hot in the summer.)

I HATE things being snug around my waist & these have no waist "band" - they just sorta hug you all over in order to stay in place rather than having a thin strip of elastic squeezing your mid section (like you get with pantyhose. ugh!)

Ha, I guess that's it.

ok i get it. yeah i agree with all those.

but you would wear them only when wearing a pad right?

not when you are NOT wearing a pad.

i wear only cotton panties. the bikini cut. (plus when i wear longer skirts i dont wear underwear - neither do i wear panties to bed or pants for that matter - so breathable and cool is not something i need to find - i think cotton does that well enough for me) and i cant imagine wearing the mesh panties without pads. though its been so many years now i cant remember what they exactly looked like. so showing some of my ignorance here.

woah i just googled mesh panties and OMG. i had no idea. not for everyday use.

They are non-binding, stretchy, and rather comfy. They are definitely only for using with pads, but do a nice job even with my favorite arrangement - an infant prefold wrapped around a soft ice pack. They also wash up easily and are so cheap it's no big deal to toss them if you want to.

Oh, and they're a one size fits all, which is great postpartum. I'm a "fluffy" mama to begin with but still love them. Attractive? Um, no. But they work well and would for whatever shape and size you end up with immediately postpartum.

there are are attractive ones if you are so inclined

ok i can relate to everything you wrote in here. plus add a csection belly so it was even nicer for that reason.

but i have to say - and this is my personal thing - it felt strange, really, really strange. its a mind thing.

Right! I actually only wore them the first 2 days PP. (Had to stay in the hospital 48 hours.) It never occurred to me to bring some home & wash & reuse them.

But my bleeding subsided quickly so I could use a 'normal' pad by about 3 days instead of gigantic ones & I just wore my normal panties - which are the "Hanes Her Way - The Perfect Panty" they're pretty good about not riding up & a thin breathable fabric & also good about not showing panty lines.
