What do you do for naps?

We co-sleep and have a crib sidecarred to the bed that she never sleeps in. She used to nap on my lap but now she seems to need to be in the bed for her naps. She can roll, but I have a lot of pillows I put at the edges of the bed (king size) that she can't get over. She also makes noise when she wakes up so I hear her on the monitor.

What I'm concerned about is when she starts to crawl. I'm worried about her falling off. What do you all do?

We have a pack n play but she seems to go to sleep easier if I lay next to her. Sometimes she needs to nurse to sleep. There is no moving her while asleep, or she'll wake up.

Suggestion? Ideas?

I nursed ds to sleep in the side-carred crib, now I nurse/rock/bounce him to sleep and carry him in to the side-carred crib. I made a soft side-rail from a bed sheet that I put up. He has escaped it once and fallen off the bed, so now I'm on to the next thing (he's 11 months).

With dd I just put her on the floor for naps once I was worried about her falling off the bed. Later I moved her to the side-carred crib set-up. And then on to a mattress on the floor in her own room (just for naps, we still co-slept at night.

If you can get her used to napping in the play pen it would be a good tool for after she's mobile.

when DD started crawling we put the mattress on the floor

We also have the mattresses on the floor (twin between our king and the wall). We used to use a video monitor and put pillows at the head and foot, but the video monitor broke and now we just use a sound monitor. Our DD isn't super active in her sleep (19 months), so it works fine for us and she's only really fallen off once (rolling over in her sleep). This obviously won't work for all kids.. some are very active in their sleep and more prone to falls.

I'm liking the idea of the mattress on the floor. Although it wouldn't be perfect because our mattress is really thick. With the frame and box springs our bed is really high. I'd say the mattress is probably at least a foot and a half thick by itself.

I could also put her down in the sidecarred crib and stay next to her until she falls asleep, then do a makeshift barrier.

We have a king mattress on the carpeted floor. Our bedside tables are actually not by the bed, they are on a different wall than the bed and have nothing on them. I think, my 14 month old son learned to climb on and off the bed by 9 or 10 months old. There is no way we would be able to have our bed on a box spring and bedframe, because he would find it difficult to climb on/off the bed.

i have thick comforters folded up surrounding the outside of the mattress in case she crawls off or rolls off it seems to do the trick

Even when your DD starts crawling, she might not want to crawl off the bed. Obviously this is just my experience, but my DD never tried to crawl off the bed. When she woke up I used to hear her on the monitor and go to her immediately. She never even came close to falling off.

You might be worrying about nothing - maybe you could wait and see how things go?
