Night Weaning

In a few other threads, I noticed that some moms had a better experience with CLW after night weaning. I think this would definitely help DS and I.

DS is 18 months today. He co-sleeps with DH and I. He only nurses during the day when he wakes, at naptime, waking from naptime, and at bedtime. At night, he'll nurse 3-5 times... and it's killing me. I was in a car accident in Sep 08, and have back issues from it. Last night was a particularly painful night because he didn't nurse to sleep, so he made up for it during the night. At one point, around 5ish?, he was tugging at my shirt, and I said, "No, Jonas, go to sleep." He curled up on his daddy's chest and fell asleep. I feel bad for even doing that (after falling asleep nursing him, then nursing 3-4 other times during the night), but this morning my back hurts so bad from positioning myself to nurse him. He used a paci, but at 13 months threw it at me and that was the last time we used one. We're TTC#3. I don't want to wean him, but nursing at night is really taking a toll on me.

Wow, didn't realize I wrote a book... anyway, is there any good sources for info on night weaning? Any suggestions?

I like dr sears' 12 alternatives for the all-night Nurser here:http://www.askdrsears.com/html/2/t022900.asp

Good luck!

My dh was able to take over bed time after a few nights with me in another room at bed time. My toddler weaned himself a few weeks later. Be kind to yourself. By the way, I did get pregnant before he weaned and my breast hurt alot when I nursed him. Everyone is different, though. Good Luck.

Moving to Breastfeeding Beyond Infancy

We had really good luck using the Dr. Jay Gordon nightweaning method (you can google) when DS was 19 months old. He rec's a 10-day plan, and we took it a bit slower, about a month or so. DS went from nursing every 1-2 hours at night, to sleeping 3-5 hour stretches in the first couple weeks. Then when he was down to only nursing 1-2 times a night we moved him to his own bed and began having DH handle wakeups. He STTN about half the nights now, and only wakes once or twice the other half. There were no tears at all involved, he took to it really well.
