Storing clothing in the attic?

I have saved all of DS's clothes - nicely labelled in boxes by size and season. Well, they are starting to take over my basement. We're planning to adopt and I don't want to get rid of them in case we end up with a boy.

I have a TON of room in my attic. Especially the attic above my garage which has stairs and is fairly easy to get to.

But I would hate to have all those clothes ruined.

Have you stored clothing in an attic? In what container? I don't want to have to buy plastic containers for them.

Any ideas on how to do this and keep them nice? Or do they need to stay in the basement?

I think plastic is your only option for being almost 100% sure they don't get ruined, although you could use those space bags instead of boxes. you vacuum the air out of the bag and they compress really small. or, if you have a food saver you can actually vacuum-pack clothes in that plastic! that would be a PITA, though, as you could only do a few pieces at a time... I am trying to get my kids' clothes condensed into just a few of the space bags for what I'm saving to hand down. I used cardboard boxes with lids in the attic-type space and they weren't secure from mice and spiders, so now I'm having to clean everything out and do it all over
