a literal cat nap?

The fact that I'm even posting this ridiculous idea is a clear sign that my nap-resisting 4-month-old has driven me to insanity.

That said...

The baby loves to sleep with someone warm and snugly. The cat loves to sleep with someone warm and snugly (and is a much better napper than the baby!). Is it totally crazy to stick them together on the bed and see what happens? (Yes. Yes, I know it is. But...)

It totally depends on the personality of both, if you ask me. One of our cats loves to sleep near Cecilia. The others tend to keep their distance. But he doesn't sleep near her face, more like at her feet/legs, so it doesn't worry me. It's really cute to see.

fine, IMO. my cat and my daughter have a deep and somewhat inappropriate relationship (the cat likes to lick people, the baby likes to put things in her mouth, hence the cat's tongue ends up in the baby's mouth WAY more frequently than is sanitary, i'm sure), and have been napping together since she came home. the cat is not *allowed* in the crib, so they don't sleep together there, but when she's napping on my bed, the cat is often right next to her. with the normal amount of supervision you'd give any napping baby, i'm sure it would be fine, especially a 4-month old who is probably capable of moving her head and body away.

I think it all depends on the disposition of your cat. My cat can be very very sweet, but he also bites sometimes for seemingly no reason, so I'd be wary of him around a baby.

Although we also don't have a baby yet, so he may calm down by then or surprise me, but for now, for MY cat, it would be a no.

Oh, and I didn't see this before, but I don't know that I'd necessarily "stick them together." Cats don't really seem to like being forced into situations. But if your cat gravitates towards baby? That's a different story.

One of our cats was sleeping on the bed when I put Max down for a nap the other day and I let her stay there. I just don't think she's going to go and lie down on his face, and even if she did he would move and start whining.

This made me giggle.

I'd say it's worth a try, I would just check on them frequently.

I feel you on this one. Both my kids seem to find sleeping highly overrated. My cats, on the other hand...
Actually, the cat we had when ds was born used to sleep under the crib EVERY time I put ds in it for a nap; like RIGHT under ds. I think he liked the heat.
They also slept squashed against each other (cat joined us for EVERY nursing session until ds was about 3-4 m.o.) Unfortunately, though they often slept together in my bed, the cat never managed to extend ds's naps, because, being a male cat, he was unable to act as a cross-species wet-nurse.
All right, clearly I'm going off my rocker too so I'll just sign off now.
