Night time nursing for 8 week old

Hello there! My DS is 8 weeks old and just a dream. Really. We started out with a pretty difficult BFing relationship, but have really come a long way. He born at 36 weeks and Jaundice, I had to fight the Pedi to not suppliment with formula and had to compromise with feeding him with a bottle, I exclusively pumped for 5 weeks and then just about 3 days after his original due date, he started latching, on his own. Now he nurses like a champ and prefers the breast to the bottles that DH has to give him while I am at work. This was a huge accomplishment for us and can be a very hard transition to make. But it's going wonderfully.

I really would like any suggestions on nighttime nursing. We co-sleep and sometimes when he wakes up (only about 2 times a night at 3 and 5 am) I can roll over and give him my breast with him on his side and snuggle him nice and close to me and just go back to sleep. But it doesn't always work, I feel like maybe I am laying awkwardly or something. I was just wondering if all you smart, experienced mama's had any advice for this FTM who is trying to fumble her way through a great breastfeeding relationship.

Thanks!

I think the side-lying nursing can take time and practice, especially with a first baby, but even with subsequent babies. It gets a lot easier in a few weeks as baby's head control develops, though, so I would say keep trying. Side-lying nursing is the best way I know of to get mama and baby the most possible sleep while meeting baby's needs.

It can help to play around with positioning of pillows, to see if you can find ways of lying that are more comfortable. My kids, for example, really needed something behind them to help them stay on their sides, so we rolled blankets tightly and then taped them with masking tape so they didnt come unrolled, and I used to stick them behind baby's back.

Also, if baby is struggling to latch while lying down, you can latch baby sitting up, and then have your partner help you lie back down again with baby latched.
