there is no Heart beat But I think they are off on my date HELP!

So let me start from the beginning, we had a ectopic pregnancy on may 28th which resulted in emergency surgery to remove my left tube, we were told everything when great and that it may take a while to get pregnant, well I had my first period since the ectopic which was the 6th of June, and my periods are VERY irregular, 40 days to 60 days all over the place,. We also could not have sex during June because of my surgery the Drs wanted me to wait to heal (thank goodness) so July 1st was my 2nd follow up apt with my regular Dr and she said we have a few options: go back to “trying”, go on Clomide, or have a HSG Test to check my remaining tube to make sure it’s clear. Well my husband and I were sort of through with test and prodding etc so we opted for easy, sex… well on the 12th of July I felt funny I went to the Dr they drew blood, Negative… Bummer, then the following weekend, I thought the same thing, weird zoomy feeling, peed on a stick, very faint positive! Dr drew blood the next day (Monday the 19th) my HCG # 147, then drew them again Thursday the 22nd my HCG # was 808!! Doubling normally! Good sign, since with Ectopic we do not see them double normally… The Monday the 26th my Numbers were 4,000!!! Whooo! I’m Finally prego… We’ll then we had a sonogram on Thursday the 29th and there was a bloob little and black in the right spot (which is all they were looking for making sure it wasn’t in the tube), and she (the sonogram tec) said we measured at 5.5 weeks… seems odd seeing as I could not even attempt conception until 3 week before this day… But I did not argue at all-figured that they know best but it was odd that she confirmed my June 6th period.. Why is she asking about that?… 2 weeks later, and mind you I’ve been feeling some morning sickness, mostly just nauseas … and I’m heading in on Friday the 13th (yes this past Friday) and they get me in the Ultrasound/sonogram room and gear me up for another sonogram, internally, and she in there all of 2 mins and say, oh I’m sorry there is no heart beat and you are only measuring 6weeks 3 days…. Well I am clearly not thinking, and neither is my husband, I start crying and they take me and my husband into to see the Dr, who tells me that they are a couple options, Wait and see, one week and see if it takes care of itself and D&C…. WHAT.. could the time be off or is it just me after this weekend of painfully going over the timeline in my head and talking with my best friends and a nurse neighbor it really seems like they are really off… And suggestions, I have a 3:30 apt today and Want to be better prepared for my Apt, I wrote down the “timeline” and I’m FINALLY seeing MY dr this time… so I feel that I could be right and this baby is still kicking b/c at 6 weeks 3 days the heart beat is not always present but if they are thinking I’m almost 8 weeks then yeah I would say sure then there maybe some concern measure only 6 weeks ish and no heart activety but I think I am only 6 weeks ish… now barely 7…. HELP!!!

I'm assuming you don't chart or look for fertility symbols of ovulation when TTC?
So you really have no idea when you ovulated...

Let's say on July 19th you were 4 weeks pregnant - or 14 DPO based on a + HPT 2 days earlier and a beta of 147. That would put ovulation at July 5th. Did you keep track of the days you had sex in early July? They add 2 weeks to the time you ovulated in pregnancy weeks, so being 4 weeks pregnant means you ovulated and most likely had sex around 2 weeks ago to get pregnant. They count the 2 weeks up to ovulation when the egg is maturing in the 40 weeks - even if your cycles are totally long and crazy, you just add 2 weeks, not 7 or whatever.

Anyways, so that would put you at 8 weeks today. Are they using a good ultrasound machine? Have they drawn a beta again to see what the levels are doing? You *should* see a heartbeat at 8 weeks if the machine is good qaulity and the tech knows what to look for.

I definately would NOT go for a D&C until you confirmed that hcg levels are dropping, and definately ask for another U/S. Honestly I would stear clear of the D&C IF it came to that since you are soo early and it's better to maybe let nature take it's course.

, sorry you're going through this - hope you get more answers today.

I am so sorry. I would agree that no matter what the calculated dates are you insist on another ultrasound and blood draws. Not that you would but don't make any decisions based on the last appointment.

Do you know if you have a tilted uterus? I'm going over the dates too but I've heard stories of women getting faint positives at 10 or even 8 days after ovulation. That would still make your ultrasound off by a week but having a tilted uterus could explain that.

If you got pregnant when you attempted three weeks before, then you would, indeed, be five weeks pregnant assuming that you had your last menstrual period two weeks before ovulation. They count those two weeks. I would still insist on additional testing and ultrasound before consenting to the D&C. You never know! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Yes I do have a titled Uterus, thank you all for your suggestions, i'm def scared and not going forward with the D&C that they have scheduled for TOMORROW! Which i feel is truelly jumping the gun.... I am so in disbelief that I could be going through something like this again so quickly! But I have an ultrasound at 3:30 today and I'll keep you all posted..... Fingers crossed that my baby is is there and kicking..... and just had "developing"

No matter what "they" scheduled, it is your body and your decision. You can refuse the D&C. If it is the worst case scenario, what is the harm in waiting a week or two to see if things process naturally before getting a D&C? Have you had your hcg blood levels checked again to see what is happening?

I would not do anything to interfere based on an u/s, as there is a wide variety of tech skills and machines. I also do not in general think D&Cs are necessary or beneficial every time someone has a miscarriage, but that's just my personal belief.

my personal belief (which was actually instilled in me by two separate doctors) is that in almost every case, a D&C is NOT necessary or beneficial. Yes, there are times when they very much are, and in those cases it is a great thing to be able to do to help the mommy... but in almost every case, including missed miscarriage, there are other options that can be taken that are less risky and allow the mother to pass the baby on her own (which is necessary for many women to be able to grasp the pregnancy is over... it is very very very hard not to have that ability to let go)

I would insist on another blood draw to confirm HCG going down and another ultrasound in 1-2 weeks.

The way they measure due date is based on 2 weeks prior to conception. So with DS even though my period was Dec 17th, they counted my last period as Dec 25th.

Did they see a fetal pole?

DS was a clomid baby, so we had exact ovulation and frequent ultrasounds.

My experience with early ultrasound, not everyone is the same as many women on here attest.

5w 1d, yolk sac and gestational sac Or circle within a circle
6w 1d fetal pole and heartbeat Or circle with a squiggle.
7 weeks Slightly more developed
8w 1d arm buds and legs. At this ultrasound we also saw movement.

I am sorry this is so hard. Hoping for the best

Two stories for you, one good and one bad, but hopefully they will both give you something to think about:

10 years ago, my friend got pg quickly after a miscarriage (like, 6 weeks later). At the first u/s, they said there was no baby - a blighted ovum. She opten to let things happen naturally, and when she hadn't miscarried a couple of weeks later, a second u/s showed a healthy, normally developed embryo (who is now a 10yo boy!).

5 years ago, DH and I got pregnant on the first try. I knew NOTHING then, went to an OB recommended by a coworker (I was fairly new to town and didn't have a doctor). She did a transvag and said I had a blighted ovum. We opted to wait over the weekend, did two blood draws before returning to her office on Monday. Monday's u/s clearly showed the egg sac collapsing and my levels had halved instead of doubled. I didn't have a D&C, but did opt for an induced miscarriage since I was getting married on the Saturday and didn't want things to happen naturally in the middle of it all!

I do hope the docs and technicians are wrong, but a D&C is never the only option. Get those blood levels checked, have another u/s in a few days, and make sure things are TRULY wrong before doing anything irreversible.

I have a friend who is due just a few days off from when I am. She has had 3 children and 3 miscarriages, one of which was a blighted ovum.

When she first went for an ultrasound, they thought she should be just over 6 weeks from her LMP, so they expected and did not see a heartbeat, but only a gestational sac. She had another ultrasound 2 weeks later and it showed a baby with a heartbeat. Turned out she had just ovulated quite late. So they simply changed her due date and told her that since she ovulated late, even though she was 8 weeks at that point by LMP, she was really only about 7 weeks based on the ultrasound.

I agree with the others to wait and do a repeat ultrasound to see what is happening in a couple of weeks. If the waiting is really a struggle for you, in the meantime you could also do some blood draws and they could see what your hCG levels are and if they are rising.

With this pregnancy, at 7 weeks ALL we saw was a round sac, nothing else, no baby. I was sure I was having another mc, but tried to remain positive. The Dr. was great, never mentioned a d&c. We just scheduled another ultrasound in a week and a half. Guess what, a baby with a heartbeat and measuring right on. That was the hardest 1.5 weeks. It won't hurt to wait and see a bit. Good luck!

How did the u/s go? Have they done any blood draws to see if your hcg is going down?

Do not lose hope! A tilted uterus can really eff up the measurements until you're far enough along for the uterus to un-tilt itself. I've read so many stories of women not seeing the heartbeat until 8, 9, or even 10 weeks. Most of them were diagnosed with a blighted ovum... then went on to have healthy babies!! Now I can't say for sure that things will go well but you're under different circumstances because things are at a different angle than they would normally be.
