Avoiding Thrush...

Hi

I tested positive for GBS and I am being induced this Wednesday, so of course that means 2 bags of IV antibiotics while I am in labor... I was wondering what the best course of action to prevent thrush in me and the baby would be... probiotics? have gentian violet on hand?

If probiotics, what is the best choice for me to take? I know I should have done this sooner.... should I give some to the baby too?

Thanks!

Well,

I would avoid the IV antibiotics in the first place. GBS doesn't mean you must have them. They may tell you you have to, but I know many women on here have declined.

If you are not interested in finding an alternative, Probiotics may help. i would take them yourself and give them to the baby. I would do that anyway regardless of antibiotics. Gentian Violet won't prevent thrush, but can treat it effectively if you get it.

Thanks! Do you have any recommendations for a good probiotic for me and for the babe?

I am getting the iv antibiotics, there are a lot of other fights I am fighting at the hospital and with this Dr office and this is one battle I am giving on... I feel like the risk is real, and if that will get them off my back on some of the other things I want it's worth it...

I would get an adult probiotic for you and a powder for the baby. Just mix with BM and give it to them in a dropper/syringe

For my son, when he was born we used Klaire Labs infant therbiotic.
