Unauthorized procedure done

My daughter needed to have her teeth removed and she is 4 so she had an outpatient appt. at the hospital. They suggested sealants to me and I said no because I'd researched and found bpa in most sealants. They had that crossed off their procedure sheet and everything. So after the procedure the dentist came out and said he saw that she had more cavities than thought and decided to put the sealants in without consulting me because he'd assumed that we had decided not to do them because we couldn't afford it. (They're not covered by insurance.) So then he said he wouldn't charge me. Trying to be nice, right? Well, a month later and here I have a bill for the sealants, as well as $850 of other mysterious stuff that wasn't on our original proposed bill.

I'm thinking I could sue just on the basis of him performing an unauthorized procedure. Grr!

That is infuriating, I would feel so violated and disrespected... I agree with PP, def. don't let it go!

Don't sue. He was trying to help you out. I am assuming there was some miscommunication between the doctor and the staff and you were charged. Call the office and let them know the doctor said that he would not charge you for the sealants as they were not part of the treatment plan. He was trying to help you out because he thought you couldn't afford them. Make sure the office staff knows this and get it cleared up. You weren't mad about it until you got the bill so try to fix the situation first,

I have to add that sealants are the same material as in white fillings. So these cavities that he opened and sealed would have turned into larger cavities down the road and would have required fillings. A sealant is much smaller than a regular filling.
