Any other veg*ns really miss meat?

I very rarely eat meat when it's humane, kosher and organic. So that doesn't happen very often.

But I really MISS it and crave it all the time still! I also crave things like cheese, a glass of milk or stuff with gelatin in it.

I don't really do the fake substitutes because they don't cure the craving anyway and they're so over processed. And as much as I crave it (especially meat) I feel a little at the thought of actually eating it.

Just wondering if others are veg*n despite still really wanting meat.

In my fave cookbook, The Vegetarian Mother's Cookbook, she says to be very honest and realistic if your pregnancy is not thriving on a vegan diet and that local farm-raised eggs can be a good addition. When I get the rare craving for animal protein, I turn to eggs from the farmer's market and do not feel guilty. Guilt does nothing to promote your health, esp. when pregnant.

Are you getting enough fat?

I know it's not an iron deficiency but I never thought about fat. I think I'm getting enough? I eat lots of nuts and nut butters, olive oil, etc.

I do eat eggs. :yes I've been eating them boiled when I get a 'meaty' craving.

It does have something to do with being pregnant I think (the strong cravings, at least). I've craved meat like crazy in every pregnancy. I have hyperemesis in early pregnancy and THE ONLY thing that usually sounded good was something meat related. Feels like a bad joke.

I know others would disagree with this, but I try to listen to what my body really NEEDS and respond to that when it is a special situation.

Like first trimester. DH came home with steak one night to cook on the grill, and I looked at it and said, "there's enough for me, right?" He was shocked! lol However, since I've started taking my prental vitamins (not sure why I was so opposed in the beginning???) I don't crave meat anymore and am fine without it. I don't like how it makes me feel after I eat it.

I will admit that the smell of meat grilling always still smells so wonderful to me! But my MIL has been vegetarian for 30 years, and she says the same thing, so I guess that's a normal "cavewoman" reaction.

I've never been a big fan of meat, though, so I am happy to not eat it. It's not a big deal to me; it was never something I felt like I "gave up" KWIM?

That is so me! And there are certain comfort dishes that I still miss. I use to make this Bacon Chicken and Dumplings that was drowned in cheese and it was soooooo good. I make a vegan version but it just isn't the same.

I think I need to work on developing some new favorites that are veg*n.

I'm never really crave meat and I haven't eaten any in over 10 years, but with this pregnancy I feel my body wants some. The thought of actually eating it makes me feel sick too! Unfortunately, I have not been able to stay vegan, and eggs and milk (drinking mostly) was very hard to reintroduce. If you truly miss meat and crave it go for it, even if it's only temporary for the baby.
