name opinions requested

ok...
our last name starts with an s and has two syllables.
one of the boy's names we really like is cyrus.
is that terrible to have so many s sounds?
my husband's name actually ends with an 's' so the 's' to 's' transition doesn't bother me much. he's just learned to pause when saying his last name so they don't run together

opinions?

Hope your child has no speech impediments?

Seriously, I'd back off on using so much of one sound.

i dont see the problem

I'd probably avoid it, only because I know that simply saying, "Is Judah asleep?" bugs the tar out of me! Having to say "Cyrus Soandso" sounds challenging, and is far more unavoidable than my situation with my little guy's "-ah" name.

I love the name, but I'd avoid it. The last sound of my first name is the first sound of my last name, and as a result, there is always confusion when I tell people my name (they sort of blend into each other unless I enunciate VERY clearly). Also, that's a lot of s-sounds for a little kid.

My SIL named her son something that almost rhymes with our last name, though, because she feels so strongly about the name and really wanted to use it. We don't notice anymore. How often are you going to address your son as "Cyrus Lastname", KWIM? I personally avoid names that start with the same letter as my last name, but if there were something that I really liked, I'd rethink that policy. I say if you love the name, go for it.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. It's not as if Cyrus, dropped of an s, sounds like a bad word or a bad sound. Plus the way "ssss" is said is a natural place to stop a word and pause. It's not so easily blended as other consonants.

We had a similar issue with the name Liam, as our kids have an M last name. Liam M---- sounds like "Leah M----" and would give the poor kid an entirely different gender!

Cyrus, on the other hand, only sounds like Cyrus, and definitely sounds masculine. I know a couple of kids with s/s names, and it's just not an issue.

We have the same sort of -ah ending name. So we just say, "Is Boobah sleepin'?"

Disclaimer: My child's name is not really Boobah

I like the sound when a first and last name share similar sounds. My first name and maiden name had 2 A sounds, 2 n sounds, and 3 r sounds, and I think it made the two names flow nicely together. My married name doesn't flow as well.

It took me a LONG time to get over using "asleep" and change up the verb so as to avoid the dreaded sound conundrum!
