Ok, I think I finally have enough time to write a bit. I usually check in with MDC on my phone, which is not the best for typing much in the way of a response.
Ember is now over 7 weeks old. She still spends most of her time nursing, sleeping, and being fussy (esp in the evening! of course). She does give some pretty great smiles when she's alert, though. I love it when she locks eyes with me and just griiiiins and grins. And sometimes coos as well. Best thing ever.
Night time is getting more and more of a chore, though. She's fussy in the evening, even at the boob, and then is difficult to get to sleep. However I still can't complain much because she's been sleeping through the night since week 2.
She usually wakes to eat between 6-7, sometimes earlier (this morning was 5:30). dd1 started going to school two weeks ago and would have to be up and moving by 8, so I was not getting any sleep past the time Ember would wake up to eat. Now she's off for two more weeks before school starts up again, so I'm going to thoroughly enjoy the catnaps I can get in the morning since I don't have to get up right away.
Nursing still seems to be going well, but I still obsess a bit since I had supply problems with dd1. I have a scale at home that I weigh her on fairly often, but even besides that, all signs point to success. I also pump at night every night and have a good stash going in my freezer. dd started at 6#12, got down to 6#4, and is now up to over 9#4 as of a few days ago. Still on the small side, but she started out small and is following the growth curve (and in fact has gone above it a bit). Most newborn clothes still fit, but not all. 0-3 fit better.
Ember doesn't like the car much either, but it's getting better. She's AWESOME at sleeping in a Mei Tai, though, so I can take her out anywhere as long as I keep moving and she will sleep through it. When she does wake up, I can nurse her in the Mei Tai which just adds to its awesomeness. DP also puts her in it sometimes at night and gets on the treadmill with her. Helps with the evening fussies.
I'm starting to feel less like I'm adjusting and more like she's always been a part of our family. dd1 is still VERY excited by her existence and it's mostly been a smooth transition for her (she's 5.5, though). I do still have to remind her a lot about how to act around a baby. She still wakes up her up sometimes, picks her up and walks away without asking, rough-houses too close to her, etc. But really it's been pretty good.
It's weird, but I miss cooking. I can kind of do small meals sometimes, but it's a huge hassle. She either wants to nurse or sleep on me and nowhere else, so again it's all about the Mei Tai.
As for weight loss, ha. I actually LOST weight being pregnant. Well, I gained about 4 pounds total during pregnacy, then lost almost 20 initially when she was born. Now I am gaining some of that back.
As usual, my body is all backwards. With dd1, I gained tons of weight, hardly lost anything when she was born, then didn't lose any weight until after she weaned. Silly body o' mine. Really though, I'm pleased with my body, my birth was beautiful and I couldn't have asked for anything more.
I had my last mw appt last week, and am pretty sad about it! I asked about volunteering (it's a whole practise of midwives) and hopefully they'll have something for me to do. I had a pap and a blood draw to check my thyroid and iron. My insurance is running out in a week (state pregnancy medical) so I wanted to get it all done while I can. I also need to figure out bc which i can't come to a decision on. I was thinking the copper iud but I'm scared of worse periods (they're already terrible) and I can't quit my diva cup. I love it too much!
Glad to hear about you all and your babes! I wish everyone well, keep checking in!
