same here. But remember, it's not CIO if you are there with her, holding her or verbally consoling her.

I am really hoping to get rid of the paci by the time she is one, but I would rather her keep the paci than use her fingers. I have noticed that she is more inclined to use her fingers when she is happy and playing than when she is upset. It is an interesting theory that maybe we shouldnt be concerned about it at all.

My 8 month old has been able to get his paci back in his mouth occasionally at night for about a month now. Usually we retreive it for him because he'll pull it out and throw it. But he can usually find it pretty easy if it's near his face.

My first ds(5) needed a paci and used it at night and for naps until he was about 3, when we gently weaned him off of it. He would NOT sleep without it, nor without nursing. We weaned from night nursings at 18 months (sleep deprivation on my part). He wouldn't even let the binky drop from his mouth after falling asleep for hours. I would not have weaned him prior to when we did because he had a very strong sucking need.

My second ds usually lets the bink drop quickly after falling asleep and rarely uses it during the day. I think he'll probably wean his own binky use.

I really don't think you'll gain much by trying to wean them from it at 6 months.

My two younger children were much better sleepers and they took/take pacis and sleep great compared to their older sister.

Bottom line, some children sleep great no matter what, some sleep horribly no matter what.
yeah, for sure. ours just happened to be so suspiciously related to the paci falling out, it was such a phase and she did learn to get through it. now she takes two 1.5 naps a day and 12 hours at night. it was just so obviously paci related because all i had to do at night or at nap if she woke was stick it back in and she'd keep going. now she just takes it initially and is fine when it falls out.

If she likes and wants sucking when she needs it then she likes and wants sucking when she needs it. It is normal and instictual behavior and yes it will CIO if you try and break it. Both of my kids like them and I am fine with it, even when it was annoying at some point.

That doesn't mean it was the pacifier. My DD has never slept with a pacifier in her mouth, a thumb in her mouth, or a nipple in her mouth, yet she faithfully wakes up at that 45 minute mark during almost every nap. So...if 45 minute waking is due to spitting out pacifiers, why is my DD waking up? It doesn't compute. That's just when babies wake up at certain stages. It's common and normal for almost ALL babies to do that. My DD, despite not sleeping with a nipple in her mouth, will still usually go back to sleep if I nurse her back to sleep, same as your dd would go back to sleep if she got the paci back. That's just what babies do, paci or no paci.

Again, that's not obvious at all. If she woke up upset, she'd spit the paci out to make noise. Babies who woke at that time will usually go back to sleep if you just find the right method. Google "45 minute iintruder". I hate those Ezzos, but they did come up with a catchy name for those 45 minute nap interruptions. My baby does NOT sleep with a boob in her mouth, but she will go back down if I nurse her for a few seconds. According to your logic, that would only work if the reason she was waking was because the boob fell out of her mouth.
