Any ideas for 14 mo old who is cold in pool?

Just signed my DS up for 5 weeks of 30 min pool classes which starts tomorrow.

In talking to another mom who started classes today, she told me that the pool is not as warm as you would hope it would be for little ones and it is typically on the low end of their acceptable range.

My concern is my DS has no body fat and his lips chatter even when I give him a bath with the heater on and with me pouring warm water over him, as he did this evening, as it was quite a bit cool outside with rainy weather. Our indoor temp was 74, and even I put long sleeves on because of the chill in the air.

I can't do anything about tomorrow's class, but since we have 9 more classes, I need to make sure he's going to be warm for the rest of them.

Any recommendations on where I can buy a neoprene wetsuit top for a toddler his age (not sure how they run size wise so either 12 mo or 18 mo sizing)?

I found long sleeve rash guards at Toysrus, but don't think they provide any warmth, just protection from the sun (we'll be indoors).

I don't know that i would go as far as an actual wetsuit (not sure where you would find one so small) but I have found that the long sleeved rash guards really help with body temperatures.

Also, encourage him to keep moving.

Some pools will allow the small ones to go into the hot pool after the lesson for a few minutes to warm up - but that does tend to vary from one facility to the next.

Good luck - hope he loves it!

We used the little sleeveless wetsuits from warmbelly.com for our little ones, and they worked great.

Yup. warmbelly.com! Did this for months
But in the end, I switched pools.

Chances are? YOUR pool has swim meets, at which there is a MAX acceptable temp at which they set the pool.... you can't shift the temp of a pool quickly so they keep it there. Did lessons at a small pool (no meets) and they set the temp higher. BIG change in acceptance

you can probably pick up clearence long sleeved rash guards at Old Navy and such around now.

I also found wetsuits at my thrift store, but we have a really great thrift store!
