What age for backpack?

I bought one secondhand. An outback, I think. One with a frame. She told me 6 months. Is that right? Because I'd love to put her in it now, and she's 4 1/2 months. I just want it for housework. She's getting to the point where if she's on my front she grabs for everything which is not safe. She's bored facing inwards. Too soon? And if so, why?

I think the general rule for frames backpacks is that the baby should be sitting independently first. They don't offer the same amount of support for the baby as some other back carriers, so you need to make sure they have good upper body strength, head and neck control, and balance.
Try to see if you can dig up the instructions online. They will give the companies safety guidlelines.

Good advice, thanks. I did just that. 6 months and up to 40 pounds. I guess I'll have to wait another 6 weeks to put her in it, but I'll be ready and she'll love it.
