Beer as a Rinse

I have heard of using beer as a hair rinse after you washed your hair makes your hair shiny and full of body. Has anyone tried using beer in their hair? What about the smell?

My grandmother did. She had great hair until she died @ 90yrs old!

I don't ever remember her smelling like beer???

I do a beer rinse sometimes, it works! You have to rinse it out well (obviously) and the smell is pretty much gone once your hair dries.

I tried a beer rinse a few months back.  Got a can of DHs beer that he didn't mind me taking.  I tried to let it warm up some but it was still COLD on my head!  I rinsed it out well and didn't notice any smell after.  I also didn't notice anything particularly great about my hair after.  Maybe my hair just doesn't appreciate beer, lol!

I use beer on occasion.  I do NOT rinse it out - it is the correct pH to leave in (restores the acid mantle of the scalp), and rinsing it out sort of negates that.  Plus, the proteins in the beer is what adds body, so I don't want to rinse that away.

The beer smell dissipates as soon as it is dry.  But sometimes I add a little EO to it just to make sure.  My favorite is rosemary oil, naturally good for hair.  But even if I don't add the EO, even when I ask, no one has ever said my hair smelled like beer.

I've been doing beer or dilute vinegar as my final rinse for about 30 years, and I get comments on how shiny and healthy my hair looks.  It's graying now, but I still get comments. 

I put the beer in a plastic bottle (has a squeeze top) and put that in the bottom of the tub as I shower.  The hot water runs over it and heats it up so it's not so cold.
