Girls names

I am having a really hard time with girls names. I was going to go with Cora but I have been having misgivings. I like a lot of girls names but my dh has shot them all down. Here is what is left.

Cora
Edith
Amaris

What do you think?

Cora and Edith are both lovely. Old fashioned names are back with a vengeance.... even some of the ones considered "dowdy" are back. I ran into a baby Dorothea this weekend.

Amaris looks made up... my spell check doesn't recognize it as a real word or name. Also, I wouldn't know how to say it.

Ahhh mah is?

or

AY may ris?

Amaris isn't made up. It is a Spanish name that means child of the moon or a hebrew name that means God has said.

It is pronounced

Ah mah ris

Cora! I fought hard for Cora with my DH but he did not waver. Siiigh. SOMEONE has to use it, it's a beautiful name.

i LOVE Cora. DP likes it too, so we may someday use it on a different babe. This time around (assuming we dont change our minds!) we're going with Fiona.

Edith...eh. Seems like a harsh name for a little girl, but thats just my opinion.

well i'm in the minority... I can't STAND cora. However I do like Edith and Amaris. I think I prefer Amaris however Eleanor is my most favorite girls name after Molly and that isn't totally different from Edith. Amaris is just so nice and... floaty? dancing in the wind comes to mind I guess haha.

What about using Nymbler.com to find other similar names? You type in names you like and it generates similar ones. When I typed in your three names I got

Ava
Edna
Georgia
Louise
Leora
Alice
Charlotte
Florence
Talia

Personally, I like Cora, but it seems super popular right now (at least among the MDC crowd). I know a grown up Edith who goes by Edi (E-D). I do like both of these names. Amaris makes me think of some new drug that's out right now. All I can thing of when I hear it is "Amaris, to the nose!" like they say in the commercial. Sorry!!

I LOVE Cora. Amaris is ok. I really don't care for Edith at all to be honest. Maybe if you were going to nickname her Edie.

those are nice names! Amaris is nice, so is Maris, I knew a woman called Maris and I always liked her name.
Edie is very cute.

I like the Edie idea. Cora is pretty too.

Ava and Charlotte are super popular right now. Talia looks like "tail" to me.

Alice, Lenora, Georgia and Louise are lovely.

If I do use Edith I will probably use the nickname Edie a lot. Nymbler never worked for me. My other kids are Delia and Theodore who goes by Teddy. I like Greek and older names but it doesn't have to be if it is an interesting name. My dh doesn't like any of the Greek names I had. I don't want a name that will end up pretty popular. Cora does seem really popular here and on baby center and it does make me worried what it will do this year.

Amaris is on my short list because of its meaning in hebrew. Beautiful!
