Where can I find?

I have heard several women here say that the u/r for vbac-ing women is the same as a first time mother giving birth. I haven't found this in any articles. Will someone please share? Thanks!

You probably won't find it in any mainstream articles, but one of the best sources I have found for accurate information is "Obstetric Myths and Research Realities" by Henci Goer...she does the research and cites the articles(her bibliography is impeccable) and puts it in a form we can use....She has a whole chapter on VBAC, and what the literature says, and what the medical community says. I think uterine rupture rates are less than 1% IF mom is not in a hospital on pitocin or other augmentation. Of course, if one is "allowed" to VBAC in a hospital and they augment/induce, then the deheisence rate goes way up! Gee, I wonder if there is a coincidence? You could also check PubMed and the Lancet for articles- search VBAC uterine rupture rate or somehting of the sort...hope that helps.

It is something that I have heard people say, but it is not true. According to the NIH review of research earlier this year:

Uncut: 0.006%
VBAC: 0.325% overall / 0.778% "at term"
ERCS: 0.026% overall / 0.022% "at term"

Now, what IS true is that the risk of uterine rupture is the same as *other* obstetric emergencies that could occur in uncut women - such as cord prolapse or placental abrubtion.
