Free sewing classes

I am curious where people take sewing and/or quilting classes.

Here in San Diego, we have free classes through www.sdce.edu and there are more and more free sewing classes being offered. They are trying to meet demand since the last few semesters have over 100 students show up to the one basic/beginning sewing class. (I've been sending friends and acquaintances to that one class and they keep getting turned away. ) Quilting classes have remained the same. I want to take a home decorating sewing class (intermediate or higher) and fashion sewing (clothes) have taken over.

What kind of machine do you have? I always like to take lessons with people who are familiar with my machine. That being said I have found the best deals are through a Brother dealer ($50 an hour), isn't that funny! They even offered me private lessons and said I could bring the kids. Whereas when I was shopping for a new machine the Bernina and Pfaff people told me they would teach me to use my machine, not how to do any projects .
I saw those classes in the sdce brochure, glad to know they're full so I won't even try right now.

Oh and try the rec centers - I saw some classes there, or maybe even the library. I have seen a group of women sewing at the El Cajon branch.

Hi there! I have a Singer from about 15 years ago (good quality).

The classes are not full this coming semester. They haven't even started. They start next week and they've added so many classes compared to previous semesters that I'm sure there will be room for lots of people. Have you been to the new building at WCC? The classrooms are HUGE!

I don't actually NEED any sewing classes. I know how to sew; I just like the motivation and inspiration from classes. Helps me get projects done, KWIM? Until Home Decor comes back in "fashion", I'll just have to set up "dates" with myself for sewing. The 52 project challenge is helping immensely with this! I also have a crafty friend who lives nearby and we get together to do crafts once in awhile (we both quilt and scrapbook, among other crafts). We were just at a crop together on Saturday and decided to make it more frequent and are working on dates in September.
