bridging the gap between sizes

My diaper stash is made up of all used diapers that I got from Craig's List and Ebay. I loved the prefolds that we started with but they are really too small now. They aren't leaking but the fit is tight when I snappi them in place.
My next size up for cloth is some old fitted diapers that I don't like as much but I got for a steal. The problem is they really are too big for her right now. The tag says they fit 10-22 pounds and I would guess DD is about 12 pounds now. They don't leak but the bulk of them is fairly ridiculous.
I really would love to stay with prefolds but I am loathe to spend more money when these fitteds are perfectly good diapers.
WWYD to bridge the gap between sizes? Should I continue to use the prefolds without the snappi? I have done that in the past but feel nervous about leaks. Should I just grin and bear the bulkiness of the larger diapers for now? Or should I suck it up and buy some mid-size prefolds?

You could use pins on the smaller ones to last a bit longer if you're not having leaking problems, but I'd probably just tuck in the larger size and deal with the bulkiness because I don't like pins and it's summer so I can get by with just a PF most of the day...

I bought a dz LL flats because of this very thing. I figured that they'll always fit and they're good for a million other things, too, so it was worth it.
