One-size adjustable diapers

Has anyone used them from a newborn all the way until underwear?

I looking at the fuzzi bunz and the bumgenius, any experience?

I can't find what I have left from my son but I remember selling newborn covers, prefolds and some fitteds. I know I have larger prefolds, covers and fitteds in a bin somewhere. We didn't full time cloth diaper with my son because my husband wasn't on board and the laundry situation at different places we lived was not great for cloth diapering. Now we bought a house and have our own washer and dryer so the laundry situation is much better.

I did use some fuzzi bunz with my son, but not the one-size ones.

I used BumGenius 2.0 for my DS from about 7 weeks until undies, and we're still using one every night. He was probably about 11 pounds when we first started them and they fit, but I can see why people say they don't really fit down to 8 pounds. We ended up switching from their microfiber insert to a prefold or a hemp soaker as I couldn't keep the stink off no matter what we did. The natural fibers on the inside really helped the stink. I think the ease of the diapers as they are so much like a disposable was what really got DH on board with cloth. Some of the elastics did give out, and I just saved those for double stuffed night time diapers where we wouldn't have to hold any of the poo in.

This time around (babe due in November) I am using newborn fitteds, some larger fitteds, and prefolds to supplement my existing BGs. I don't think the PUL will last diapering a second kid from birth to potty time.

Hope this helps!

We used bg 3.0 from 5 months till pt with DS and from 2wks till current (2yrs 2 months) with DD2.

I thought at about 18 months that they would never fit till he was trained but they did lol. They are the best diaper IMO

Thanks, glad that they worked for you. I think I will try them this time around.

I'm using BGs on dd, and I LOVE them, but after one year, the "holding power" of the aplix is much, much weaker, and I do worry that it won't last until PL.

I have read that the aplix in the 4.0s is meant to hold up better, though.

FuzziBunz one-size and Rumparooz one-size will start fitting earlier than the bumGenius one-size. I have been gathering real-world experiences of when the various one-size start fitting, and the consensus is that except for FuzziBunz and Rumparooz, one-sizes won't fit well until 11 or 12 lbs/7 weeks.

PP is right. The FB OS fits from 7lbs up to 35+ lbs. They get super itty bitty!! And they have snaps instead of aplix which I LOVE because I don't have to worry about snaps ever wearing out. They're pretty darn sturdy. My dryer "ate" a few of my diapers before and I had to pull them out and the snaps stayed on (except for one, which FuzziBunz happily and quickly replaced for me). They give you two inserts, one for newborns and one for older babies, and once your baby gets older, you can use the newborn inserts as double protection at night if you're worried about leaking. My DD is 10 months old now, and we've been using the FBs since she was about 3 months old and they still work great as ever!

Thanks, I'll probably try a few styles but I am glad to know they were used for a long period of time.

I though the bumgenius came in a snap version instead of aplix?

Any advice for skinny thighs? If this baby is like my son, he'll also be long and skinny.

The newly-released BG 4.0s do come in either snaps or aplix, your choice.

My experience was that the 3.0s fit my newborn well right away, though she was in sposies just until her umbilical stump healed.

The BumGenius elastic died for us after a year of use and I will never buy one again. Very frustrating.

The Happy Heiny's were fine pretty much from birth and my sturdy two year old has a ways to go before she outgrows them.

We have Rumparooz and Knickernappies one-size but I haven't used them on a newborn yet. Give me another two or three weeks and I'll tell you how that goes.

I can wait for your review on how they work with a newborn, I am not due until the end of November.

I'll probably try several diapers.

I have used my one-size SoftBums AI2 for ds since he was 2 days old, at 8lbs. He's only 3.5 mos now, but I have a good friend whose son is 2yrs and he's still using his one-size SoftBums (he weighs about 28lbs). Oh, and we LOVE these diapers! They really work great, are easy to adjust, and hold everything in really well.

I started using our Bum Genius 3.0 pockets on DD around 8 weeks or so, I don't remember her weight then, maybe 11lbs-ish? Anyway they fit her and my 2 year old, who is mostly potty trained.

I have been using a few bumGenius 4.0 since birth (almost 10 lbs 21 inch NB) and they look like they could fit a smaller baby. They are much improved over the 1.0s which would never have fit a NB. DD wore them until she was out of diapers.

Tried them on my newborn now.

I think that Knickernappies are going to be the longest fitting of the OS I have tried. They have a really high maximum rise but on the smallest setting they are perfect for my newborn. (Granted I have big kids: at a week old she's an ounce or so shy of 9 lbs and 21" long.) The Rumparooz would cheerfully go down to a smaller baby than mine because we already have to skip the middle waist settings or we cut off circulation in her legs. The Rumparooz are the absolute best at keeping in messy poop so if you have small-ish children they would be a fabulous investment. Now that my two year old is 35" tall they are bikini briefs on her and that makes me nervous so we have switched her to using the Knickernappies/Swaddlebees only.

Also worth pointing out: we are chicken about using diapers that could bang on the cord stump so we wait for that to fall off. We use Kissaluvs size 0 until the stump comes off. You buy them used for $10 and can turn around and resell them for the exact same price so they seem like a good stop-gap to me. I noticed after the fact that the Rumparooz would have been great even with the stump because there is a gap at the top of the diaper due to the bulk of the folded up cloth. There is nothing resembling leakage due to this gap (there is too much material in the way to manage) so it would have been ok with the cord stump.

A one size Fuzzi Bunz came in the mail today. I played with it and managed to adjust it pretty small with the elastic settings but I am not sure that there are enough snaps at the waist. I have a bumgenius 4.0 coming to compare it to.

I also found the diapers I have left from my son. Over a dozen prefolds with a blue edge-not sure what size, many medium covers, a small bumpkins cover, a nb gerber cover and a few nb/small prorap covers and a bunch of wipes.

Now I just need a baby to test stuff out on!

Knickernappies OS definitely go bigger than most OS, but might be too big on a newborn. FuzziBunz, SoftBums, LolliDoo all have adjustable leg elastic and those seem to fit smaller babies better than OS's that have snap down rises.

My kid was born 8 lbs 12 oz and she wore the Knickernappies just fine at one week, so technically slightly below birth weight. The Rumparooz already couldn't be on the tightest setting at one week or they turned her legs blue. I think they would work on a significantly smaller baby.
