Does high hemoglobin equal less bleeding during/after birth?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if a nice high hemoglobin provides for less bleeding during/after delivery, or if it rather only aids in recovery from blood loss itself? I've experienced "heavy blood loss" before, as well as a delayed PPH, though my last delivery and PP was normal. Bleeding is really my only major concern with birth.

My 30 week hemoglobin was 13.5 and my 39 week hemoglobin is 14.6. I've been eating extremely well this pregnancy, and attribute these numbers to high protein intake, as well as lots of nettle and RRL!

Thanks for any input.

I can only really speak for myself, but I have been considered 'anemic' in every pregnancy although my numbers were the lowest with the last, #5. I was at a 6.7 at 36 weeks. I had a really tough miscarriage before that pregnancy involving a bad hemorrhage after 2 weeks of bleeding and a botched D&C. I usually ran at a 12 or 13 during my non pregnant times, I am a fair skinned red head who eats really well also. During this pregnancy I have had no issues, 27 weeks now, I also have not had my level checked as I think it makes em freaked out. I had p.p.h with my three hospital births but not with my two home births. I should mention that my numbers were the lowest during the home birth pregnancies but I bled less during the birth. I have heard that your level really does not give a good indication of your chances of hemorrhage and that mothers with lower numbers usually bleed less, their bodies know they cannot spare the extra blood. I have been on iron supplements many times, floridix, chlorophyll and alfalfa also. I think different people run a different normal.

I have always been on the very low side of normal, and have had PPH with all three births. We are working hard now to boost my levels (I'm only 18w) hoping that if it doesn't reduce the bleeding, it will make it easier to recover.
