Homemade gift ideas for 2.5/3 yr old

I'm looking for homemade gift idea suggestions for my 2.5 yr old son. We have the holiday season and his 3rd birthday in December, and our tradition has been to make him something. Last year I made him a heavy baby, and he still loves it

Right now we're thinking a felt racetrack (the kind you can roll up and take along with you), but I want to do something else.

What have you made/are you making for your toddler-almost-preschooler?

I knit balls and then felted them. Pencil roll, bags of all shapes and sizes.....

I made a bunch of beanbags and they've been a huge hit with both kids. I can see being able to play a ton of games with them as they get older.

That's also a great age for busy books. Each page has a different skill: one page may have something with a zipper, another page has snaps, another has a ribbon to tie. I believe that Burda has a commercial pattern for one that I'm not totally crazy about, but it might spark some ideas. I just googled for toddler busy book and found this pattern, which looks much nicer. There were a bunch more hits, if you google for things like "toddler fabric activity book."
