One of those nights with dinner...

We brought home our first really good crop of pattypans from my mom's garden tonight. I had my mouth all set for pattypan pizzas.

I put them all together while the kids screamed at me and held onto my legs. It was so much more work than it should have been.

Then I took the first batch out of the oven (cheddar, chicken and fresh chives, the ones I was most looking forward to) and promptly dropped them all over the floor. They were completely ruined, although I did think about scraping them up for a second there.

I cried. DH cleaned them up while I consoled DS who was also heartbroken (he's 3 and gets very upset about throwing things away).

I took the next batch out of the oven (parm, sundried tomato, and basil) and the tomatoes burned crispy in just the three minutes they were in there. Cried some more, told DS "Yes, it's bacon" when he asked, and ate what we could (DS was pretty happy since he thought his pizza had bacon on it )

I am a good cook. Really! But nights like this make me want to make PBJ for dinner for a week.

it happens to everyone.

my personal best disaster was a few years ago... i made cheese and bacon buns, which are fairly basic, but a lot of work to put together. i was hugely pregnant at the time, and i wanted these things so bad that my mouth was watering. i took the first pan out of the oven, had to run to the bathroom, and when i got back to the kitchen, they were all over the floor and the cat was eating them. i pulled the second pan out and they were absolutely black. i was so mad, i cried. DH tried to make a joke about it and i threw the pan at him!

you are not alone.

Oh man, nights like that make me cry too. So horrible when you are so excited and drooling over somethind and it goes so terribly wrong.

You poor dear, I hope dinner is less crazy for you tomorrow.

I hate it when that happens! A month or two ago I had a epic fail with dinner and I was so upset about it. My paneer (soft cheese) refused to curdled and while I was preoccupied with that, I burnt the curry I had to toss it alll, I was so upset!

My entire pregnancy was one big culinary fail- I think my taste buds just did something weird when I got pregnant and oddly, they still aren't what they used to be before.

So sorry you had a bummer of a dinner.
