Reply with, "Yup, now that I'm holding him he's doing great! Looks like he just wanted mommy" That should clue them in.

Exactly what I would say!!

What makes people think that a baby's need to GET THE HECK AWAY FROM PEOPLE THEY DON'T KNOW ( or don't want to be with) is being "manipulative" or a "phoney". I'd be tempted to say, "Yah...he's faking it so that he gets away from you because he isn't capable of walking away yet!"lol....But I guess a nice way to say it could be, " He's crying to tell me he wants me and I believe in responding to his wants"

ugh...sorry you have to go through this@!

I normally say something like "you are 25 times his age, he doesn't know how to manipulate' or "He still thinks peekaboo is magic, he doesn't understand enough to 'fake' cry".
