Going sugar-free tomorrow!

I'm posting this here to keep myself accountable! I'm way too addicted to sweats and I really think cold turkey is the only way. Anybody want to join me?

I'm currently sipping coffee with just milk and it's not that bad. Maybe I'll actually survive tomorrow.

Just wanted to give you kudos and wish you good luck!!

I did sugar-free for 7 months this year to jump start weight loss and am slowly re-teaching myself responsible sugar consumption!!

You won't believe how good you feel once you get past the withdrawls!!!

to you!! Congrats on the committment.

congratulations and good luck!!
I need to do this too. It is so hard! Especially because my DP looooves to bake...
Best of luck! I am not completely sugar-free now - but I was for about 6 weeks. The first few days are hard b/c your body goes through withdrawl/detox, and I had a bad headache as a result - but, after a few more days you will feel tons better. Now I can only tolerate small amounts (even naturally occuring, like in fruit) b/c it just tastes too overwhelming to me and I can feel the impact on my body.

Thanks everyone!!!

I'm just going to take this one day at a time now. I don't have any length of time set that I want to do this but I just know it needs to be done. Not even just for weight loss but also to kick this addiction. Although, I certainly wouldn't mind some weight loss as a nice side effect!!

Good luck, mama. I started a low carb/sugar free diet about a month and I'm LOVING how I feel and the results. I've lost weight and I don't feel as bloated or as 'consumed' as I once was, if that makes any sense. Wishing you all the best. And yes, please take it one day at a time. The first few days, I was a little edgy, but then you get used to it and start finding new snack and meal ideas. It's great!

Thanks! Well, it's 3pm here and I'm trying my hardest to stay away from the half eaten bag of M&Ms in my desk drawer at work. I think this is the worst part of the day for me (post lunch). In the future I really need to make sure to have some sort of snack at work during this time (and good sugar free snack ideas???) and make sure to give away these M&Ms to someone quick!!!

Can I join you? I was just coming here to post a thread to keep myself accountable Today is day one
no sugar
no coffee (even decaf)
no grains (I have celiac but really can't process any of the grains to well)
I have been feeling so crappy for the last month (headaches every day ) I have done this before for 6 months and felt great. I just need to take care of myself! This is what is best for me. I know it, it is just so hard to follow through! Good luck to you.

I hope your day went well and it wasn't too rough!! I'm waiting for DH to get back from his run and bring the things I needed for dinner. But I'm really hungry and we don't have much food in the house so I'm really trying to be good but there's yogurt just sitting there in the fridge. Hopefully he makes it back SOON!

Wow, I'm really impressed with the coffee and grains. I'm hoping just to manage the sugar at this point. But yeah, the follow through is hard. I'm sure after a week of this I won't even care but today was rough.

Subbing so I can hear about your successes and decide if I can do it! I never liked much sugar until I was pregnant and it hasn't changed! I never understood what was so great about it until now...I never even liked fruit! I'm hoping to get back to where I used to be and just enjoy it occasionally. Good luck!!

I always loved sugar but for some reason pregnancy and now nursing has made the cravings so much worse.

I survived yesterday, day 1 done! My run this mornings seemed to be so much easier than normal, I have no clue if it was from me cutting out sugar. Anybody else experience such an immediate effect?

Oh, and yep, my goal is to be able to eventually eat the occasional sweet but emphasis on occasional because right now that's just not possible.

This is great! I am not sure that I can do it, but I will follow along and hopefully be motivated by others success. Typed as I am snacking on Starburst...

I have a long way to go

Hi, I'd like to join you too. Yesterday was my first sugar-free day, I cleaned the pantries out on Sunday and was surprised at some of the things that had sugar in them!

Day 1 - No sugar!
Day 2 - So far, no sugar, but it's only 11:34

And I talked to my doctor today, she's testing me for celiac, so I might be going GF soon too!

Here are some snack ideas. It's more geared for low carbers, but they avoid sugar which is what you are doing.

Good luck!

jend- Feel free to join at any time, I've really seen a huge dip in any cravings and have even been eating less in general because I don't feel hungry all the time anymore.

Welcome and good luck! How did your doc appointment go? I need to make an appointment with a nutritionist but we're all sick at the moment so I'm waiting for this to pass first.

Violet. Thanks for the snack ideas, I'll check them out! My chocolate/sugar cravings have pretty much dissolved unless I'm really, really stressed out. But I haven't had any sugar at all except for accidentally eating chips that had sugar in the ingredient (I was stupid and checked after the fact). In general I just feel so much lighter and have way more energy than before. I've also been able to tell my hungry/full signs better. I really think sugar was messing up my whole body and making me crazy before!

So how many days did it take to start feeling these effects? Like when did the cravings drop down? Congrats, looks like you're doing awesome, very motivating for the rest of us

Great ideas for snacks! I will use this. Still not committed, but gathering momentum...physmom, thanks for the encouraging words. You are doing great!

Here's some support from someone who has gone the distance. Right now I feel I can sincerely say I'm a former sugar addict - and I was addicted on the level of a heroin addict for the majority of my life. It was not quick (it's been a 7 year journey, though I hasten to assure you it wasn't 7 years of torture!), but I think something in my body chemistry finally changed. While I'm capable of eating some sweets that I bake myself (I use about 1/3 the sugar called for in most recipes - nothing artificial, I just will put in 1/3 cup if the recipe calls for 1 cup, for example) I just really don't want sweet things anymore.

Good luck! It was 110% worth it for me.

Hmm... I think after just one day of being sugar-free I already noticed that my morning run was much easier. However, it took somewhere between 3days-1week before the cravings went away. I had one really bad day when I was under enormous stress that I almost caved but I made it through it and now I feel like I can go the distance.

Thanks!

YES! I do want to lose weight but I think I needed to treat the addiction first. I tell DH it's like I'm an alcoholic and I need to just eliminate sugar completely from my life. I don't think I'm anywhere near the point where I can eat anything remotely sweet (besides fruit) but I can at least sit through someone else eating it without going crazy. Like you, I think it'll be awhile before I can eat anything with sugar again.
