Ok, so I decided to crochet this fireman hat
http://www.innerchildcrochet.com/pat...ireman_hat.php
for my 17 yo dd because she is in the fire explorer program.
But the pattern is for a child.
I started out following it to see what size it would be.
I am horrible horrible and rotten with gague.
I am at the point where it is obvious I will have to rip out a few rows and make it longer. I just did row 31 and it is a bit tight - I could probably make it a tiny bit wider - but it is stretchy so it may be ok, but it is about 2 inches too short. So, if I rip it out to rnd 27 and increase for a few rows there and then go straight down for a couple of inches and then do round 28 - it will have more stitches, can I just keep track of the added stitches and make it bigger that way? I will obviously have to make the brim bigger too, but can the patch and star still be the same size?
Do you think that will work? I am not good at things that need to be a certain size. Like scarves and washcloths are about the limit of my talent at this point.
thanks.
